Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (AS) sector is seeking anAvionics Integration & Software Director 1for program integration and execution.This key leadership role is based out of Melbourne, FL.

The selected candidateis responsible forsupporting the design, development, and sustainment of mission system related hardware and software solutions, including integrated HW/SW products. The individual works in partnership with the Program engineering organization and ExecutionIPTs to derive and allocate requirements, develop integrated hardware and software solutions, and support integration and test at the subsystem and system level. The individual is also responsible for supporting the management of the roadmap for the Mission Systems, including current and future capabilities as well as obsolescence-driven changes. These efforts are all managed and implemented in consideration of horizontal integration across the Enterprise, including technical oversight of avionics-related suppliers. Emphasis is placed onIntegrated Functional Capabilities (IFC) planning and execution including Agile SW development, automated testing, as well as laboratory testing capabilities to verify performance to the maximum extent possible. Recent and relevant experience in Model Based System Engineering and understanding of digital threads, digital twins, and integration across air vehicle, software, and avionics design and analysis tools.This role will lead the workforce planning, staffing, and technical expertise across in avionics integration and software across a large program.

Successful leadership of this organization requires the ability to drive quality and efficiency through development and deployment of world-class people, processes, tools, and products.The Avionics Integration & Software Integration and Execution Director will be responsible for leading the avionics and software program organization by championing diversity, equity, and inclusion to foster a high-performing, motivated, and engaged culture.  They will manage the processes and tools used by avionics and software to ensure the engineers are trained, equipped, and empowered to support the large program. This leader will also be responsible for establishing the vision and strategy for the Avionics and software program organization and collaborating broadly up and across AS engineering leadership in pursuit of collective business objectives.

Key Responsibilities include: 

• Providing leadership, shaping the avionics and software strategic vision and direction

• Leading successful execution of avionics and software work scope on all efforts, and as part of this successful execution partnering with program managers to collect meaningful metrics and collaborate to use those metrics to improve processes and tools that will result in improved affordability and quality

• Identify program risk and plans to manage the risk. Address performance shortfalls through root cause and corrective action assessments and develop containment and long-term corrective action plans that include long-term verification of successful improvement and sharing of lessons learned across the engineering organization

• Leading the effort to fulfill staffing requirements and maintain the avionics and software staffing levels as needed to support our program and captures in collaboration with the broader engineering organization and talent acquisition

• Develop initiatives and collaborate with the broader engineering organization and TA/HR to reduce attrition

• Define training plans for both existing and incoming employees in collaboration with the Aeronautics avionics and software Technical Development Organization, and overall foster a culture of learning that includes active mentoring and knowledge sharing within the organization

• Drive improved employee engagement and appreciation through verbal, written, and tangible recognition, events, and personal interactions

• Oversee program/project reviews, independent technical reviews, NCTA and indirect activities, process improvement plans, proposal review and signoff, and capital planning and management

• Affordably develop and manage the organizational budget including the NCTA, indirect, and allocation plans

• Parter with the Engineering functional homeroom and national directorates to equitably manage the yearly cycles for promotions, merits, and bonuses that affordably balances the experience base across the organization, and achieves retention objectives

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related professional and/or military experience, OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 8years of related professional and/or military experience  

• Minimum of 6 years of engineering leadership experience, with at least 2 years being in Avionics Integration & Software

• Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company, and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance

• Ability to travel as needed (approx. 25%)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance

• MS or MBA degree

• Experience across lifecycles including Research and Design, Product Development or New Product Introduction, Production, and Sustainment

• Demonstrated success as an engineering leader over large teams

• Recent experience in IFC/HSC planning and execution with Agile practices including Problem Report resolution and backlog burn down.
