Requirements
  • Certified public accountant.
  • Bachelor's and/or a master's degree in Accounting.
  • At least 8 years of providing technical accounting advice in-house within an organization and/or within the public accounting space.
  • At least 2 years of experience specifically focusing on revenue recognition within complex transactions.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a subject matter expert in ASC 606 revenue recognition and ASC 340-40 costs to obtain and fulfill.
  • Partner with local and regional Controllers by resolving technical inquiries relating to the revenue recognition of new customer products and services and changes to contractual terms of existing services.
  • Assist with transaction accounting advisory for mergers and acquisitions and strategic investments, including resolving ad hoc due diligence questions relating to ASC 606 revenue recognition.
  • Equip local and regional Controllers' teams with technical accounting guidance through targeted training and the creation of a contract analysis tool.
  • Design and conduct training for the Corporate Development department on common revenue recognition and related matters identified during due diligence.
  • Work with Legal, Tax, Treasury, Controllership, and Marsh's four businesses.
  • Communicate accounting guidance to Controllers by designing, maintaining, and refining accounting policies and preparing accounting memoranda that support effective implementation.
  • Advise management on new accounting guidance issued by standard setters and regulators and support adoption and implementation of new standards across the business.
  • Support SEC reporting activities through review of applicable changes to financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A within Marsh's Form 10-Q and Form 10-K.
  • Support external engagement with Marsh's external auditors, the SEC, the FASB, FINRA, and relevant trade groups.
Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive technical accounting experience gained in a large Big Four accounting firm's client-serving technical accounting group and/or national office.
  • Expertise in topical areas beyond ASC 606 and ASC 340-40.
  • Ability to balance accurate accounting advice with a commercial and practical approach.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a thoughtful, measured approach when interacting with colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Marsh beats Q1 estimates with $7.6B revenue, $3.29 EPS as organic growth hits 5%

Marsh reported Q1 revenue of $7.6 billion, up 7.6% year-over-year, beating the consensus estimate of $7.38 billion by 2.88%. Earnings per share came in at $3.29, compared to $3.06 in the prior-year quarter, surpassing the consensus estimate of $3.21 by 2.46%. Key metrics showed mixed performance against analyst expectations. Consolidated organic revenue growth of 5% exceeded the 3.5% estimate, whilst consulting organic growth of 5% topped the 4.4% forecast. However, Guy Carpenter's organic growth of 2% fell short of the 4.2% estimate. Geographically, Marsh's EMEA division generated $1.21 billion in revenue, up 14.1% year-over-year and beating estimates. Mercer consulting revenue reached $1.66 billion, an 11% increase that surpassed the $1.58 billion consensus.
