Requirements
  • Associate's degree in radiological technology or allied health or JRCERT accreditation required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • License American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required., or ARMRIT or CAMRT registered as an MR Technologist required.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • New hires will have 30 days to provide American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • New hires must be ARRT or ARMRIT or CAMRT registered by start date.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Responsibilities
  • Prepares and positions patients for MRI of various parts of the body, including setting up equipment and ensuring optimal demonstration of the body part under study.
  • Screens patients and personnel for ferrous metal implants or other objects.
  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences from monitoring console for scan procedures, records all pulse sequences implemented for the exam, and recommends changes in protocol or instructions to provide additional diagnostic information.
  • Evaluates results of scanning procedure for quality and completeness; manipulates images using the console to display to the physician; recognizes problems and rectifies as needed.
  • Sends images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), evaluates exam for completeness, and verifies exam in a timely manner; develops working knowledge of PACS capabilities.
  • Responds to patients' physical and psychological needs; informs patient of delays; explains all procedures clearly; listens to and answers questions with patience and courtesy; observes patient conditions and reports changes to nurse or physician.
  • Starts an intravenous line on patients requiring IV contrast for the MRI examination, monitors for contrast reactions, and reports problems promptly to a radiologist or code team as indicated.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records relative to procedures performed; maintains MRI scanning statistics as required by the Department of Public Health; edits computer entries for correctness of description, reason for exam, and charges in hospital computer system.
  • Participates in teaching program of technical students (MRI) and other technologists or radiologists as needed; assists in clinical evaluation of students and MRI Technologist I's.
  • Participates in continued educational activities both during and outside of normal working hours.
