Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, physics, applied mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of professional software development experience focused on simulation, scientific computing, or aerospace applications.
  • Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 or newer), including the Standard Template Library, templates, performance optimization, and large-scale system design.
  • Proficiency in Python for API design, scripting, automation, and data analysis.
  • A proven track record of setting technical direction for large, complex software systems and driving multi-team efforts to delivered capability.
  • Deep expertise in at least two of ADCS, GNC, thermal control, electric power systems, chemical or electric propulsion, orbital mechanics, or HIL/SIL systems.
  • Experience defining and executing verification and validation frameworks for physics-based models at scale, including uncertainty quantification and validation against test or flight data.
  • Ability to make sound architectural decisions within complex, distributed systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineering peers and non-technical leadership stakeholders.
  • Ability to work fully onsite and commute daily to the Denver or Long Beach office.

Responsibilities
  • Own the long-term technical strategy and architectural roadmap for simulation infrastructure spanning multi-physics modeling, real-time and faster-than-real-time execution, and hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop environments.
  • Make architectural decisions involving technology selection, inter-system interface design, performance targets, and long-term maintainability tradeoffs across engineering, GNC, mission planning, and operations.
  • Identify and resolve fundamental technical risks before they become program-level blockers, anticipate capability gaps 12–24 months ahead, and drive proactive investment.
  • Establish and steward engineering standards, simulation best practices, and verification and validation frameworks adopted across the organization.
  • Lead the design and implementation of production-quality multi-physics simulation software for spacecraft subsystems, including six-degree-of-freedom rigid-body dynamics, thermal modeling, attitude dynamics and control, propulsion, power generation and storage, and high-fidelity sensor and actuator models.
  • Architect and implement tightly coupled physics algorithms for thermal-structural, power-thermal, and propulsion-dynamics interactions with attention to numerical stability, accuracy, and performance.
  • Design time-stepping algorithms, solver architectures, and integration schemes for scalable, real-time, and batch simulation use cases.
  • Write production-quality C++ focused on performance, correctness, maintainability, and testability.
  • Define the simulation platform's external-facing API strategy across C++ and Python, ensuring interfaces are intuitive, performant, versioned, and backward-compatible.
  • Partner with mission planning, GNC, systems engineering, and autonomy teams to translate capability needs into durable platform investments.
  • Drive comprehensive documentation, developer guides, and reference examples for self-service across the organization.
  • Provide architectural guidance, unblock decisions, and ensure coherent execution toward shared simulation goals.
  • Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, mentorship, pair programming, and knowledge transfer.
  • Mentor engineers at all levels and contribute to career-development conversations and growth planning.
  • Partner with engineering leadership on simulation capability roadmaps, tradeoffs, proposals, and technical white papers.
  • Represent simulation engineering in cross-functional forums, program reviews, and customer-facing discussions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing high-fidelity aerothermal, aerodynamic, and flight-dynamics models for hypersonic vehicles, including coupled aero-thermal-structural effects, shock-layer physics, and boundary-layer modeling.
  • Extensive experience delivering validated, production-grade simulation capabilities for aerospace or defense programs at scale.
  • Expert-level knowledge of ordinary and differential-algebraic equation solvers, numerical linear algebra, sparse matrix techniques, and automatic differentiation, including tuning solvers for stiff, multi-rate, or real-time-constrained problems.
  • Deep familiarity with core concepts of space-domain dynamics modeling.
  • Expert proficiency with Git, continuous integration and continuous delivery, CMake or Bazel, and testing frameworks, including establishing engineering standards at team or organizational level.
  • Experience with parallel or distributed computing, Docker, and cloud platforms for large-scale simulation execution.
  • Extensive experience designing and operating hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop environments, including real-time simulation interfaces to flight software or embedded hardware.
  • Published work, conference presentations, or patents in simulation, astrodynamics, GNC, or related domains.

August 20, 2026 02:05 PM ET Both startups are using their newfound capital to accelerate production of their hypersonic weapons and satellites. This three-year-old maker of hypersonic strike missiles has completed a $1 billion Series C capital raise to aid its transition into scaled production of these weapons and efforts to expand the product portfolio. For Castelion, this new financing round follows its $350 million Series C that closed in December and an 18-month period where the company has booked $500 million in U.S. military contracts. JPMorgan Chase's Strategic Investment Group, which is part of the banking giant's Security and Resiliency Initiative, Andreesen Horowitz and The Carlyle Group acted as co-leads for the Castelion Series C equity financing. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Lavrock Ventures, Altimeter, General Catalyst and Interlagos joined new investor T. Rowe Price Associates in the raise. Castelion now touts its valuation at around $13 billion following the Series C, which includes $800 million in equity capital and a $250 million revolving credit facility. Castelion's flagship system is the Blackbeard hypersonic missile, for which the Navy placed a $23.4 million firm-fixed-price order in June for 50 prototypes. In May, the Defense Department signed a testing-and-validation agreement with Castelion to lay down a framework for purchasing at least 500 Blackbeard missiles per year over up to five years. The Pentagon's pact with Castelion is part of a military-wide push to speed up the development and advancement of hypersonic weapons, which China and Russia have also prioritized. Hypersonics also depend on munitions, a segment of defense manufacturing under stress from conflicts in places like Ukraine and Russia. In addition to Blackbeard, Castelion will use the newfound capital to speed up its work on a new precision strike weapon and systems for air and missile defense. Bryon Hargis, Castelion's chief executive and a co-founder, told CNBC in an interview aired Thursday described the company as "following the model of what the country used to do in the Apollo era." Muon Space This five-year-old maker of small satellites has completed a $250 million Series C capital raise to aid its efforts at accelerating production of larger-scale constellations and expanding dual-use spacecraft. For Muon, this new financing round follows its $146 million Series C round completed in the summer of 2025. Muon has launched seven satellites so far this year, a run that brings its total number of deployments to 11 satellites with plans for 13 more over the next 12 months. Muon touts 50 customer satellites as currently in production and is pushing toward a production cadence of 500 birds per year. In addition to production, Muon also plans to use a portion of the newfound capital for investments in new capabilities such as orbital artificial intelligence computing. Eclipse Capital led the Series C round for Muon in the same year that the investment firm also co-led True Anomaly's $650 million Series D. Muon's new investors include Galvanize, Google, Salesforce Ventures, Wellington Management, I Squared Capital and Woven Capital. Existing investors returning to the fold for Muon include Radical Ventures, Congruent Ventures, Costanoa Ventures, Activate Capital, ACME Capital, ArcTern Ventures and Overlap Holdings. Muon designs its satellites to operate in low-Earth orbit while collecting and distributing Earth intelligence data for government and commercial entities. The company's federal portfolio includes a second-stage contract with the National Reconnaissance Office, which they signed in May to aid the further development and eventual deployment of the Halo satellite. Muon is also one of 14 companies involved in NASA's Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition contract, which the agency uses to expand the availability of Earth observation data across scientific communities.

April 28, 2026 03:15 PM ET The four-year-old space startup closes a new capital raise on the heels of its selection for a key Golden dome-related contract. True Anomaly, a small satellite manufacturing startup that has quickly expanded into other aspects of space, has collected $650 million in Series D capital from investors to aid efforts in accelerating product deliveries. This new round announced Thursday comes roughly one year after True Anomaly closed a $260 million Series C round, which focused on vertical integration and capacity expansion. True Anomaly opened for business in 2022 to exclusively focus on defense and national security space efforts. In addition, True Anomaly is one of a dozen companies that Space Force recently announced as prime contractors for a program to develop space-based interceptors. These weapons are a cornerstone in the strategy to build out the Golden Dome missile defense system. "Space superiority is no longer theoretical. It is a requirement for the Joint Forces to be able to operate freely in any domain," Even Rogers, CEO and co-founder of True Anomaly, said in a release. "The doctrine and capabilities required for space superiority are nascent, and industry's bias towards 'dual use' platforms is rendering combat effects against modern threats underserved and unsustainable." Eclipse and Riot Ventures led the Series D round that involved new investors such as Paradigm, Atreides, G Squared, The Private Shares Fund and VanEck. Existing investors returning to the fold include Accel, Menlo Ventures, ACME Capital, Space VC, Meritech Capital, Narya and 645 Ventures. Stifel Bank is providing $50 million in debt financing. True Anomaly's primary uses for the new capital include hiring efforts aimed at expanding the team to 500 employees by the end of this year, as well as growing its manufacturing capacity to meet customer demand and prepare for a dozen missions over the next 18 months. One of those missions is a Space Force effort called VICTUS HAZE, where one of True Anomaly's spacecraft will conduct a rendezvous and proximity mission in collaboration with a Rocket Lab spacecraft. True Anomaly's core product lines include its autonomous orbital vehicle called Jackal and Mosaic, the company's mission autonomy software platform.
