Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, human services, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in intake, admissions, utilization review, case management, fee-for-service, Medicaid, Medicare, and billing practices.
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills to respond to inquiries or complaints professionally.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic health record systems.
  • The ability to demonstrate empathy and work with families.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively and professionally to groups.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel locally.
  • A valid driver's license in the state of residence and a clean motor vehicle record abstract.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the admissions process from initial inquiry to final placement for clients and families.
  • Manage and track referrals to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Conduct regular outreach to potential referral sources and build and maintain relationships with hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare providers.
  • Initiate and coordinate each step of the admissions process to fill current and upcoming vacancies and build and maintain the census.
  • Conduct pre-admission assessments and interviews with prospective clients and families.
  • Review and verify medical insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare, before intake.
  • Support consumers and families throughout the admissions process and address concerns promptly.
  • Facilitate facility tours and introduce prospective clients and families to key staff members.
  • Verify eligibility for care, including fee-for-service and Tier appropriateness for intellectual disability referrals.
  • Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to complete all necessary documentation.
  • Maintain records and checklists of documentation required for admission according to program regulations.
  • Review and monitor each step of the admissions process to identify and address potential barriers to reimbursement.
  • Generate regular reports on admissions metrics and trends for senior management.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of the admissions team, train new hires, serve as a subject matter expert, and support and guide team members.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.
  • Stay current with new regulatory requirements related to referrals and admissions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to consumer care.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years of experience in behavioral health, including work with mental health or intellectual and developmental disabilities populations, is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the New Jersey Department of Children and Families is a plus.
