Requirements
  • All service technicians must have a high school diploma, GED, or technical school certification.
  • All service technicians must possess a valid driver's license.
  • All service technicians must have mechanical aptitude.
  • All service technicians must be knowledgeable about automotive and truck systems, tools, and technical resources, and be able to independently perform a variety of basic vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • All service technicians must consistently demonstrate the proper use of repair and maintenance equipment and tools and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • All service technicians must consistently provide exceptional customer service and improve customer service scores.
  • A Technician C must meet all General Service Technician requirements and have at least six months of relevant automotive repair experience or completion of a formal automotive training program.
  • A Technician B must meet all Technician C requirements and have at least three years of experience repairing vehicles at a dealership or automotive center.
  • A Technician A must meet all Technician B requirements and have at least five years of experience repairing vehicles at a dealership or automotive center.
  • Technicians must have their own tools appropriate for their skill level.
  • Technicians must be able to work in heat and remain on their feet in a concrete facility for the entire work shift.
  • Technicians must be able to lift and carry automotive parts and equipment weighing up to approximately 80 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • General Service Technicians drive vehicles into service bays, prepare them for service, and complete digital vehicle inspections.
  • General Service Technicians perform general automotive maintenance and repairs.
  • General Service Technicians test-drive vehicles and prepare them for customer delivery after required repairs and maintenance are complete.
  • General Service Technicians keep the shop clean and organized.
  • Technician C performs automotive repairs, adjustments, and maintenance procedures outlined on repair orders.
  • Technician C completes fluid exchanges, alignments, brake services, basic repairs, and maintenance services.
  • Technician B performs all Technician C duties plus advanced repair and maintenance services.
  • Technician B works with, mentors, and trains less experienced technicians.
  • Technician A performs all Technician B duties.
  • Technician A completes electrical repairs, diagnostic repairs, and drivability diagnostics.
Desired Qualifications
  • A General Service Technician should have a G1-Auto Maintenance & Light Repair qualification.
  • A General Service Technician should have a state inspection certificate where applicable.
  • A General Service Technician should have an Air Conditioning 609 certification.
  • A Technician C should have ASE A4-Suspension & Steering and A5-Brakes certifications, or equivalent certifications.
  • A Technician C should have an Air Conditioning 609 certification.
  • A Technician B should have two additional ASE certifications, or equivalent certifications.
  • A Technician B should have an Air Conditioning 609 certification.
  • A Technician A should have ASE A1 through A8 certifications with Master Technician designation, or an equivalent combination of technician certifications and ASE certifications.
  • A Technician A should have ASE L1-Advanced Engine Performance Specialist certification.
  • A Technician A should have an Air Conditioning 609 certification.
