Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with various soldering techniques in the installation or repair of plumbing systems.
  • Proper use of hand and power tools utilized in the plumbing trade for drain cleanout and other confined space entry.
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot all equipment associated with plumbing to include but not limited to: overhead and underground piping, bathroom fixtures and facilities, manual, electronic and automatic valves, cooper, black, galvanized and plastic piping, drinking water and wastewater equipment, potable and heater water equipment, hot water heaters, ice machines and pumps.
  • Must have experience in the field, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, free of any state or municipal suspension or revocation.
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, will be expected during on-call work.
  • Must be able to work in a multi-skilled environment.
  • Senior Maintenance Mechanic requires High School Diploma or GED, vocational certification, and 5 to 7 years of demonstrated experience performing plumbing, electrical or HVAC work as a licensed professional. Equivalent vocational training may be substituted for work experience.
  • Maintenance Mechanic requires High School Diploma or GED, vocational certification, and 3 to 5 years of demonstrated experience performing plumbing, HVAC or electrical in a professional capacity. Equivalent vocational training may be substituted for work experience.
  • The schedule is primarily Monday through Friday during normal business hours. However, the position will require some weekend work on a rotational basis and must be part of the department's on-call rotation.
  • Working conditions include alternative work schedules, outdoor exposure to weather, high noise environment, high dust, dirt, grease environment, exposure to moving machinery, typically standing or walking, frequent lifting 25 lbs. or more, climbing ladders/scaffolds, and using tools requiring high dexterity.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders or scaffolding.
Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections of building aspects to ensure their proper operation.
  • Manage multiple projects to completion, including providing estimates of material costs and determining any equipment necessary to complete a task.
  • Complete repairs to plumbing equipment to resolve equipment breakdowns. Inspection and troubleshooting of the existing equipment.
  • Installation of new equipment or completion of construction projects as outlined by the Director of Facilities.
  • Troubleshoot campus plumbing systems to determine the cause of equipment failures and return systems to normal operations with minimal downtime.
  • Respond to building occupant requests regarding the operation of the building or their equipment within the building.
  • Repairs and maintenance to aspects of the campus-wide potable and wastewater systems that serve all buildings on campus.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional certifications or licenses are strongly preferred.
  • Preferred candidates will have professional licenses and certifications or have completed an apprentice program.
