Requirements
  • Minimum Education: Master's degree In Genetics
  • Minimum Certifications: American Board of Genetic Counseling Certification or Active Candidate for Certification status
  • Minimum Experience: <1 year
  • Minimum Skills: Familiarity with standard industry concepts, practices and procedures. Experience in cancer genetic counseling clinics and/or in reaching underserved patient populations. Advanced judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Providing cancer genetic counseling services in a busy academic clinical medical oncology setting.
  • Overseeing patient care, providing genetic counseling, coordinating follow-up visits and cascade genetic testing, providing tests results to patients, obtaining/reviewing medical records, and conducting outreach to patients, families, the medical community, and stakeholders.
  • Working in collaboration with a growing team of other genetic counselors, physicians, and researchers at the University of Southern California and the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred Education: M.S. Genetic Counseling, Board eligible or Board certified.
  • Preferred Experience: One-year experience in genetic counseling preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Genetic counseling, cancer risk assessment
  • Preferred Experience: 2 years in hereditary cancer risk assessment and counseling
  • Preferred Skills: Ability to draft detail-oriented communications, reports and content for publications.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and/or understanding of numerous cultural issues (e.g., immigration, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+).
  • Fluent in one or more languages in addition to English (e.g., Spanish, Korean, American Sign Language).
