We are looking for a Director in Tax & Accounting who will play a pivotal role in managing Karat Books with tax strategy, planning, audits, and reporting. The Director will also be responsible for  overseeing a growing team while working directly with our clients and becoming a subject matter expert in helping our creators scale their business finances. We want an individual who has the ambition and experience to help the team grow along with Karat.

Life as a Director at Karat:

• Participate in process optimization, developing and implementing procedural changes and/or processes to improve the tax accounting function.
• Handle special projects including tax audits, transaction structuring, and implementation of tax planning strategies for creators.
• Interact with senior leaders across the organization and will be the liaison to coordinate the flow of information between various functions to ensure high-quality work is conducted and delivered to our clients.
• Possess a collaborative approach to problem-solving and are able to build effective relationships.
• Review tax work from staff and provide feedback, training, and mentoring.
• Navigate in a fast-changing environment while showing high accountability and ownership.
• Facilitate advanced tax research, and resolve complex tax issues.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting with a CPA or EA license. (CPA license is a strong preference).
• 10+ years of relevant tax experience ideally with a CPA firm, preferably with a mix of public and private industry experience.
• 6+ years of team management experience in leading, scaling, and developing an accounting team.
• Expert tax knowledge in areas such as entity and tax classification structuring with a strong emphasis on S-corporations and being able to help clients understand the benefits.
• Broad tax knowledge in areas such as state tax reporting and withholding.
• Accounting and payroll knowledge for SMBs and high-net-worth individuals.
• Superb communication and presentation skills with a strong executive presence.
• Understanding of cloud-based accounting software platforms.

Nice to have:

• Fintech/start-up/private industry experience.
• Knowledge of international tax regulations.
• Estate tax planning experience.

The salary range for this role is between $200-$220k base.
