Requirements
  • Expert-level knowledge of nuclear weapons research, including nuclear weapon design, materials science research, stockpile management, special nuclear materials production, improvised nuclear devices, or another relevant area of expertise.
  • Current Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance or Department of Energy Q security clearance.
  • United States citizenship.
  • An advanced degree in nuclear engineering or a physical science.
  • Hands-on nuclear weapon science experience.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand written English at or above academic grade 15, demonstrated through the Nelson-Denny reading assessment.
  • At least ten years of total field experience in the nuclear weapons subject area.
Responsibilities
  • Advise senior Department of Energy management on current technical issues related to nuclear weapons research.
  • Lead working groups and develop white papers and presentations.
  • Prepare classification guidance and classification/declassification policy documents and guides in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, Department of Energy Orders, and Department of Energy Office of Classification procedures for Restricted Data, Formerly Restricted Data, National Security Information, and Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with computer codes and simulation tools.
  • Experience with nuclear weapon design.
  • Experience with weapon science.
  • Experience with use control and other surety aspects of nuclear weapons.
  • Knowledge of improvised nuclear devices.
  • Advanced understanding of Radiation Exposure Devices and Radiological Dispersal Devices, including their basic science and technological principles.
  • Expert knowledge of the Second Line of Defense program to interdict nuclear materials.
  • Hands-on knowledge of computer code development supporting the nuclear weapon complex.
  • Experience with XML computer language.
  • Experience working with the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and national nuclear weapon laboratories.
  • Expertise in Inertial Confinement Fusion.
  • Experience teaching and developing testing and educational materials for subjects such as improvised nuclear devices or Inertial Confinement Fusion.
