Requirements
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Complete a state criminal background check and, if applicable, a federal criminal background check as required for regulated areas.
  • Complete two years of college study or have two years of experience in inpatient acute psychiatric care.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Work successfully under highly stressful conditions and adapt continuously to varying workloads and work assignments.
  • Make sound, independent judgments based on scientific principles and collaborate appropriately with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Meet the physical demands of heavy or hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and occasionally physically restraining a client.
  • Work in an inpatient setting or within the homes and living spaces of community-based clientele.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate the therapeutic group process.
  • Apply effective communication techniques when collaborating with interdisciplinary team members and interacting with clients and significant others in therapeutic relationships.
  • Assist clients in structuring their lives in a therapeutic manner.
  • Serve as an active member of the mental health team while considering the client's developmental age and following the master treatment plan.
  • Provide community-based mental health care while considering client safety, patients' rights, and comfort.
  • Use the master treatment plan to identify and implement developmentally appropriate interventions with clients.
  • Therapeutically support and reinforce appropriate and prosocial behavior, and negatively reinforce and set therapeutic limits for inappropriate and antisocial behavior within program guidelines.
  • Identify verbal and nonverbal cues for potential aggressive behavior and apply de-escalation techniques.
  • Implement appropriate interventions and document clients' responses in the medical record.
  • Identify thought patterns and behaviors associated with psychiatric diagnoses and developmental ages, and intervene appropriately using the master treatment plan.
  • Provide assistance to clients' family members and other supportive individuals in accordance with program standards.
  • Perform basic medical tasks, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, collecting urine and stool samples, weighing clients, witnessing controlled-substance waste, and obtaining blood glucose levels.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, eating, and ambulation, as needed.
  • Transport and supervise clients to appointments and activities as needed.
  • Organize and facilitate recreation, physical fitness, and age-appropriate leisure activities.
  • Answer the phone and respond appropriately and professionally to all calls, including Helpline calls.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Nursing is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is preferred.
