Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Operations, Hardware Engineering, Materials, or equivalent practical experience is required.
  • Ten years of manufacturing experience, specifically including surface finishing such as T-treatment, sandblasting, anodizing, computer numerical control, 3D printing, physical vapor deposition, painting, metal injection molding, polishing, and lapping, is required.
  • Ten years of manufacturing experience is required.
  • Eight years of people management experience is required.
  • Experience with mechanical bonding, including riveting or press fits, laser welding, and adhesives, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Product Design, Industrial Design, Project Management, Reliability, and Product Operations to deliver hardware products to market.
  • Conduct detailed design-for-manufacturing reviews of mechanical parts and recommend design changes to improve manufacturing quality, yield, and cost.
  • Use statistical process control and yield studies to validate process capability, establish specifications with Product Design and Industrial Design, and drive process improvements.
  • Identify suitable manufacturing processes and manufacturability issues during engineering builds to stabilize product quality and ensure predictable supply during ramp.
  • Work with Reliability Engineering to establish ongoing reliability test plans for manufacturing processes critical to product function and resolve issues.
  • Evaluate product designs and establish associated manufacturing processes, tools, and procedures.
  • Partner with vendors responsible for component fabrication to keep manufacturing processes controlled and repeatable.
  • Work with Commodity Managers, Design Engineers, and cross-functional teams to define product requirements and specifications and ensure hardware components integrate seamlessly.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field is preferred.
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Quality, or Product Engineering for hardware technology and systems is preferred.
  • Experience influencing design through data-driven design-for-excellence proposals and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing callouts is preferred.
  • Expertise improving yields and cycle times for high-volume, premium-finish components is preferred.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, influence partners, and resolve conflicts with internal and external partners is preferred.
  • Ability to implement cosmetic quality standards, color and finish measurement, defect catalogs, and grading limits is preferred.
