Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
  • Classes, labs, and projects concentrated in some combination of electrical power systems, control systems theory, power electronics, embedded systems, mechatronics, solar and energy storage system inverters, power magnetics, or alternating-current/direct-current drives and motors.
  • Co-op, internship, or other work experience.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts.
  • Demonstrated personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Japanese and English, both oral and written.
  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes with limited notice, with duration dependent on job assignment.
Responsibilities
  • Research, assist in the development, and support the deployment of new systems and technologies.
  • Identify new technologies that can address unfilled client needs or create demand through significant performance improvements that differentiate the Company's products from competitors.
  • Evaluate the feasibility, cost, and benefits of incorporating new technologies into the Company's automation and power converter products.
  • Incorporate selected technologies into the Company's automation and power converter products in cooperation with the Company, parent company, and third-party development teams, as assigned.
  • Recommend modifications to existing tools and features of new tools needed to support the engineering and commissioning of products incorporating selected technologies.
  • Develop effective working relationships and productive communication with the parent company.
  • Perform engineering design, development planning, and project execution in coordination with the parent company, as assigned.
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including user manuals, design specifications, test plans, and technical reports, as assigned.
  • Resolve client design issues with new products, including troubleshooting at the job site when necessary, and document issues for escalation to development engineering under the direction of appropriate technical personnel.
  • Recommend product upgrades and changes to promote safety and functionality.
  • Perform development testing activities as assigned to ensure work is accomplished productively and safely.
  • Bring full effort to tasks assigned by the manager and provide the manager with best advice.
  • Give earliest notice when work cannot be delivered as specified.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with peers and interact cross-organizationally as specified by the manager.
  • Comply with company policies, practices, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Recommend viable improvements proactively.
  • Ensure effective utilization of business tools and processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Science or PhD in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Research projects or a thesis in electrical power systems, control systems theory, power electronics, embedded systems, mechatronics, power magnetics, or alternating-current/direct-current drives and motors.
