BigGo: MUFG launches Japan's first domestic JGB tokenized fund.

BigGo: MUFG launches Japan's first domestic JGB tokenized fund. September 3, 2026 Four Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group companies - Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank, and Progmat - established the first domestically domiciled tokenized investment trust in Japan and began verification in a live production environment, reports BigGo Finance. The fund deploys ¥200 million (approximately $1.3 million) of proprietary capital in short-term Japanese government bonds with remaining maturities of three months or less, and will not be offered to external investors. Beneficiary registry management is conducted on a blockchain, while the certificate-based representation of units is maintained. The objective is to connect the fund with stablecoins and tokenized deposits, transforming investment trusts into "usable assets" that can serve as settlement instruments or collateral. However, institutional constraints remain, as the legal framework for Japanese investment trusts presupposes the physical certificate representation of beneficiary rights. Bénédicte spent the past 16 years at Natixis, most recently leading the Real Assets worldwide origination teams for five years. Her previous roles included various positions at the European Investment Bank and Dexia Crédit Local. Genoveva Ramon-Borja, Head of Global Corporate and Investment Banking EU Platform and Corporate Coverage, said: "This role was designed with a truly regional mandate, supporting digital infrastructure clients across EMEA, irrespective of location. Reflecting that, we conducted a talent search across the entire region to identify the strongest leader for the business, and Bénédicte emerged as the clear standout candidate. Her deep sector expertise, strong client relationships and international perspective will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our digital infrastructure franchise and support clients across EMEA in this fast-evolving market." Holly Villiers, Deputy Head of Global Corporate and Investment Banking, EMEA, said: "Digital infrastructure is one of the most dynamic and strategically important sectors in EMEA today, necessitating the rapid evolution of financing structures. Bénédicte's experience will be instrumental as we continue to build our pipeline in the sector and support clients in navigating an increasingly diversified funding landscape. Her leadership will further enhance our ability to deliver innovative financing solutions across the capital structure and deepen our relationships with clients across the region." MUFG taps BlackRock and Morgan Stanley as it eyes Japanese private credit.

MUFG taps BlackRock and Morgan Stanley as it eyes Japanese private credit. September 1 2026 Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is exploring separate collaborations with BlackRock and Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) to develop an open platform for institutional investment in Japanese private credit. MUFG has entered into discussions with both firms on developing Japan's private credit segment, as the country's nascent market starts to attract global investors and managers look to expand their presence in the region. The potential collaborations aim to connect domestic and global capital with Japanese companies, MUFG said. The discussions will cover the evaluation, sourcing and investment in private credit opportunities, it added. MUFG brings a large Japanese corporate client network and local market access to the partnerships, while BlackRock contributes global private credit expertise through its HPS platform. MSIM, also brings its experience in the space, having provided debt solutions to businesses globally for more than 15 years. Japan's private credit market remains at a relatively early stage of development compared with those in Europe and the US. However, private credit firms, encouraged by a combination of macroeconomic factors and changing investor attitudes towards alternative credit, have recently been expanding their presence in Japan. For example, Fiera Capital opened a Tokyo office in October 2025 and made a number of hires, including Chinatsu Aoyama as director, private markets specialist, earlier this year.

MUFG to acquire DLT based superannuation administrator GROW Inc - Ledger Insights - blockchain for enterprise.

MUFG to acquire DLT based superannuation administrator GROW Inc - Ledger Insights - blockchain for enterprise. MUFG Pension & Market Services (MPMS) has entered into a binding agreement to acquire GROW Technology Services, a fintech superannuation administration platform whose core product is built on distributed ledger technology. The Australian Financial Review reported the price at around AUD 78 million (US$56 million), roughly a third of GROW's valuation a year earlier. The deal remains subject to regulatory, shareholder and court approvals. GROW's flagship product DLTA runs on R3's Corda Enterprise blockchain. The platform uses the distributed ledger as a shared registry, giving all parties to a transaction access to a single source of truth for fund and investor data. No single party can alter a record without consensus from others in the network and privacy is preserved. The Corda connection is notable because MUFG, through a separate division, founded Progmat, Japan's largest tokenized securities platform. Progmat ran on Corda until completing a migration to Avalanche last month. While MPMS and Progmat sit in different parts of the MUFG group, the overlap means MUFG has deep institutional familiarity with the technology underpinning GROW's platform. Article continues...
