Piper Sandler returned $215 million to shareholders in the first half of 2026 through dividends and share repurchases. However, fixed income revenues declined due to challenging market conditions. Piper Sandler warns Mag-7 trade 'likely over' as Healthcare and Financials lead rotation

Piper Sandler's chief market technician Craig Johnson has declared the Magnificent 7 trade "likely over", recommending a rotation into Health Care and Financial sectors. Speaking on CNBC, Johnson noted the firm has been reducing tech exposure since February. The numbers support the shift. The Invesco QQQ Trust fell 4.72% in the past week, whilst the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund rose 4.37% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund gained 7.52% over the past month. Microsoft's short interest has reached its highest level since 2015, despite posting 18.3% revenue growth. The stock has fallen 18.3% year-to-date. NVIDIA, despite 85.2% revenue growth to $81.62 billion, has gained only 5.76% this year. Johnson emphasised taking profits in tech, though others maintain AI infrastructure spending remains robust.

Piper Sandler initiates Fulton Financial with neutral rating and $23 price target

Piper Sandler has initiated coverage of Fulton Financial Corporation with a Neutral rating and a $23 price target. The firm forecasts the company will maintain a return on assets above 1.20%, up from last year, driven by higher net interest margins and recent acquisitions in Philadelphia and Northern New Jersey. The investment bank expects earnings per share growth of 5% in 2026 and 9% in 2027, following a 19% increase in 2025. However, Piper Sandler anticipates few near-term catalysts due to expected moderate loan growth and constrained net interest margin gains from reduced asset sensitivity. Fulton Financial recently reported operational net income of $99.7 million, or $0.55 per diluted share, maintaining core profitability. The regional financial services company offers banking, lending and investment management services.
