Requirements
  • Strong command of records and information governance frameworks, including ISO 15489, ARMA's Generally Accepted Record Keeping Principles, and experience designing and operating an Information Governance Reference Model.
  • Regulatory knowledge spanning UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act, FCA/PRA record-keeping requirements including SYSC, MiFID II retention rules, anti-money laundering and Basel-related retention obligations, and/or Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining enterprise retention schedules.
  • Expertise in data classification and enterprise taxonomy design.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise records management platforms such as OpenText, Iron Mountain, and SharePoint/Microsoft 365 records management.
  • Experience designing and executing eDiscovery and litigation hold processes.
  • Capability to lead paper-to-digital migration, cloud records repository implementation, and automated disposition or legal hold workflow design.
  • Understanding of risk and controls methodology, including Risk and Control Self-Assessment practices, audit remediation, and first- and second-line-of-defense operating models.
  • Familiarity with how records management intersects with data management and data privacy.
  • At least 20 years of progressive experience in records management, information governance, or a related risk or compliance discipline, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • A track record of building and running an enterprise-wide records management function within a regulated financial institution such as a bank, insurer, or comparable organization.
  • Experience leading large, geographically distributed or matrixed teams, including onshore/offshore delivery models typical of banking operations.
  • Direct experience managing regulatory examinations and audits related to records management, with a credible history of remediation delivery.
  • Accountability for budget ownership and vendor management, including physical storage contracts and enterprise content management licensing arrangements.
  • A strong background in change management and experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders up to and including Executive Committee and Board Risk Committee level.
  • A strategic mindset, with experience owning and delivering a multi-year target operating roadmap for a governance or compliance function.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with the local business unit to ensure successful implementation of data and records governance frameworks appropriate to the business unit's needs.
  • Provide guidance and support on records classification, retention, storage, retrieval, and disposal to business units.
  • Monitor local data quality and records metrics and identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for data improvement and optimization.
  • Partner with relevant business units to support their data priorities and ensure appropriate data and records decisions are embedded in business-as-usual decision-making and change programs.
  • Manage a business function and provide significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function, and plan, manage, and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects.
  • Direct a large team or sub-function, lead other people managers, and embed a performance culture aligned with business values.
  • For individual-contributor responsibilities, lead organization-wide projects, act as a deep technical expert and thought leader, identify new ways of working, and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists, and provide information affecting long-term profits, organizational risks, and strategic decisions.
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions outside the function.
  • Manage, coordinate, and enable resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalate policy and procedure breaches appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance and ensure regulations are observed and relevant processes are in place.
  • Monitor and influence the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups on behalf of the organization when appropriate.
  • Apply interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in complex or sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant and strategic decisions or recommendations within the area.
  • Negotiate with and influence senior-level internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions or business divisions.
  • Serve as a mandated spokesperson for the function and business division.

Housing Plus Group secures $1.2B funding package to invest in homes and communities

Housing Plus Group has secured £961 million in funding from five banking partners to invest in existing homes, deliver new properties, and strengthen communities. The social housing provider partnered with Nationwide, NatWest, Santander, AIB, and Barclays for the financing, supported by advisers Savills and Trowers & Hamlins. The package builds on £806 million of existing facilities, bringing the Group's total loan portfolio to over £1.3 billion. The refinancing simplifies the organisation's treasury structure whilst reducing financial risk and costs. Interim Chief Finance Officer Richard Nowell called it "a transformative moment" that improves financial resilience and creates capacity for customer investment. Group Chief Executive Wayne Gethings said the funding enables continued investment in homes and neighbourhoods whilst delivering new properties for future generations.

Barclays names Mike Joo and Adeel Khan investment bank co-CEOs

Barclays has appointed Mike Joo and Adeel Khan as joint chief executives of its investment banking division, effective February 2027 pending regulatory approval. Joo will join from Bank of America, where he served as co-head of global investment banking. He joined the US lender in 2006 after eight years at Credit Suisse, where he was co-head of Asia debt capital markets. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1995. Khan currently oversees Barclays' global markets business and has been co-head of the investment bank since 2021. He joined Barclays in 2008 and has over 25 years' experience in financial services. Previously, Khan worked at BlueBay Asset Management, running the firm's credit hedge fund. Both executives will serve on the group executive committee.

Winvia Entertainment secures $42M Barclays loan to fuel UK prize draw market consolidation

Winvia Entertainment has secured a £33 million three-year term loan from Barclays Bank, replacing its previous Eurobank facility. The AIM-listed company, which operates in UK prize draws and Romanian online gaming, also obtained a £5 million revolving acquisition facility with an uncommitted accordion option to increase it by up to £15 million. As of 30 June 2026, Winvia reported a net cash balance of approximately £31.8 million. The company is the second-largest UK prize draw operator by market share, running brands including Best of the Best, Click Competitions, and Rev Comps. The refinancing aims to support Winvia's consolidation strategy in the fragmented UK prize draw market. Chief Financial Officer Simon Hay said the arrangement establishes "a secure, long term capital structure with low leverage".
