Meta may overtake Google Search in ad revenue by end of 2026, Bernstein says

Bernstein analysts predict Meta Platforms will overtake Alphabet's Google Search in advertising revenue by the end of 2026. The firm suggests Meta may have already matched Google Search revenue on a like-for-like basis, excluding other Google ad streams such as Maps and Gmail. Meta captured about half of all new digital advertising spending in Q2 2026. Its Advantage+ automated ad-buying software generated over $75 billion in annualised revenue, with campaigns delivering $4.52 for every dollar spent, 22% more than manual campaigns. The company plans to fully automate ad creation and targeting by end-2026, supported by estimated capital expenditure of $130 billion to $145 billion for the year. Barclays projects WhatsApp could generate up to $6 billion in incremental ad revenue in 2026, whilst Threads could reach $19 billion in 2027.

Meta shrugs off California youth-AI law despite $1M-per-child penalty threat

Meta Platforms' stock rose approximately 1.3% to $652.47 despite California Governor Gavin Newsom signing 13 bills targeting social media and artificial intelligence on Friday. The new rules restrict platforms from showing users under 16 potentially addictive features such as infinite scrolling and algorithmic autoplay. Chatbot providers face tighter parental-control and safety-review obligations. Negligent large platforms could face penalties of up to $1 million for each child harmed. While the maximum individual fine equals roughly 0.0016% of Meta's latest quarterly revenue of $60.8 billion, thousands of claims could significantly impact the company. The greater risk lies in potential forced redesigns of Meta's recommendation engine, which drives engagement, advertising inventory and personalisation.

AppLovin's 70% revenue surge faces off against Meta's $60.5B profit in 2026 stock showdown

AppLovin and Meta Platforms represent contrasting approaches to digital advertising. AppLovin provides AI-powered technology helping mobile apps find and monetise users, whilst Meta connects billions through social networks. In FY 2025, AppLovin's revenue reached nearly $5.5 billion, up 70% year-over-year, with net income of approximately $3.3 billion and a 60.8% net margin. Free cash flow hit $3.9 billion. Meta reported FY 2025 revenue of close to $201 billion, growing roughly 22.2% annually, with net income of approximately $60.5 billion. Its net margin stood at 30.1%, whilst free cash flow reached $46.1 billion. AppLovin faces competition from Apple and Google, plus ongoing federal securities litigation. Meta contends with privacy regulations and heavy AI infrastructure spending. Despite AppLovin's impressive margins, Meta's massive user base of 3.5 billion daily users provides a stronger long-term foundation for investors.

Meta launches Muse, AI shopping agent that can complete purchases, but 69% of consumers refuse to share payment details

Meta has launched Muse, a personal AI shopping agent that uses years of social media activity to understand consumer tastes, search for products, navigate checkout, and prepare purchases for approval. The tool joins similar offerings from Amazon, Google, Walmart, Disney, Uber, and OpenAI. However, consumer appetite for AI-powered shopping remains limited. Only 31% of respondents in a Vogue Business survey said they would outsource shopping to an AI agent. Just 24% trusted AI chatbot recommendations, whilst 72% would not share card details with such systems. Muse's rollout follows Meta's $14.3 billion investment for a 49% stake in Scale AI, part of chief executive Mark Zuckerberg's push to compete in the AI race. The company says users control which apps Muse accesses and can opt out of data training, though Meta faces ongoing privacy concerns.

JPMorgan upgrades Meta to $820 target on Muse AI agent and frontier model opportunity

JPMorgan has upgraded Meta Platforms to Overweight from Neutral, raising its price target to $820 from $640. The upgrade follows Meta's release of its Muse AI agent and frontier models, which analyst Doug Anmuth believes open growth opportunities beyond advertising. Anmuth cited Meta's Superintelligence Lab for reaching the AI frontier within a year, noting that the Muse Spark 1.3 model now competes with OpenAI and Anthropic. The Muse AI agent reached number three in the US App Store on its second day, with usage running at roughly ten times that of internal training cohorts. However, the expansion comes at significant cost. JPMorgan projects Meta's capital expenditures at $243 billion in 2027 and $284 billion in 2028, both above Wall Street consensus.
