Cullen/Frost Bankers misses Q2 revenue estimates despite 5.3% year-on-year growth

Cullen/Frost Bankers reported mixed second-quarter results, with revenues of $576 million, up 5.3% year on year but falling short of analyst expectations by 2.2%. The Texas-based financial institution, which traces its roots to 1868, operates Frost Bank and provides commercial and consumer banking, wealth management, and insurance services. Chairman and CEO Phil Green described the quarter as "a period of sustained, solid and balanced growth." The company beat analysts' tangible book value per share estimates. The stock remained flat following the earnings announcement and currently trades at $166.47. Regional banks stocks tracked showed mixed second-quarter performance overall, with revenues meeting consensus estimates. Share prices have risen 1.8% on average since the latest earnings results.

Cullen/Frost Bankers misses revenue estimates despite 5.7% consumer account growth and $0.16 EPS boost from Texas expansion

Cullen/Frost Bankers reported Q2 revenue of $575.3 million, up 5.2% year-on-year but missing analyst estimates of $589 million. The Texas-based bank's adjusted earnings per share of $2.70 beat expectations of $2.57 by 5.2%. Consumer checking account household growth accelerated to 5.7%, with CEO Phillip Green noting this "high customer growth is also driving strong increases in noninterest income". However, multifamily commercial real estate nonperformers and intensified competition in lending structures presented challenges. The bank's branch expansion programme added over 100,000 new households, contributing $0.16 to earnings per share this quarter. Nonperforming assets increased due to a single $54 million multifamily loan. Management expects continued loan and deposit growth, supported by demographic trends showing 82% of new consumer customers are under 45 years old.

The increased borrowing capacity provides the company with additional financial flexibility for operations and potential growth initiatives.

Frost Bank falls 2.9% after missing revenue estimates despite beating profit expectations

Cullen/Frost Bankers shares fell 2.9% after the Texas-based financial institution reported mixed first-quarter 2026 results. The company beat profit expectations with earnings of $2.65 per share versus analysts' consensus of $2.48, and net income rose 13.4% year-over-year. However, revenue of $574.8 million missed Wall Street expectations despite growing 6.5% from the previous year. Analysts suggested the decline could also represent a "sell the news" event, with investors taking profits after the stock's recent run-up. The market's reaction indicates the revenue miss overshadowed the otherwise solid profit figures. Frost Bank shares are up 9.7% year-to-date, trading at $140.63, close to their 52-week high of $147.10.
