Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in supplier quality and industrialization within a manufacturing environment, with category technical expertise in fixture design, tooling development, and design for manufacturability for high-volume metal and plastics production, including die casting, stamping, forging, machining, injection molding, and vacuum forming; computer-aided design; and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Working knowledge of product development methodologies such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Advanced Product Quality Planning, Production Part Approval Process elements such as Measurement Systems Analysis, and quality improvement techniques.
  • Ability to travel to supplier sites for evaluation, qualification, and audit.
  • Applicants must be a United States citizen, lawful permanent resident, or person admitted into the United States as an asylee or refugee because the role handles information subject to United States Export Control Regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Own and manage the Mechanical Assemblies category to enable supplier qualification from prototype to volume production phases.
  • Partner with Product Engineering to support the design development process, provide design for manufacturability feedback, and help generate product data including drawing details, bill of materials information, layouts, test requirements, and part requirements that lead to supplier quality success.
  • Vet suppliers' production and quality control capabilities and capacity, factory layouts, and subordinate supply chains so new part and supplier combinations can be included on the Approved Vendor List.
  • Own the bring-up of new supplier production tooling and lines to ensure materials, processes, and tools can meet product performance, quality, and capacity requirements.
  • Own capacity expansion readiness and production ramp at category suppliers.
  • Implement robust end-of-line testing protocols at suppliers.
  • Deliver a predictable supply of mechanical assemblies to new product introduction and production programs, and manage exceptions, containments, and deviations for supplier technical performance, particularly in development phases.
  • Own the elimination of supplier risk to improve quality and reliability across the product lifecycle.
  • With the Supply Chain team, drive supplier quality development processes throughout product development stages through design reviews, supplier process development, testing, and qualification.
  • With the Supply Chain team, drive overall supplier performance for cost, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Review supplier processes and capabilities to ensure category functionality can be tested at supplier facilities and shipment of conforming product.
  • Prepare, support, and lead supplier on-site audits and reviews for contract deliverables related to quality management and compliance.
  • Implement and lead a Biofire root cause task force and own root cause and corrective action at suppliers.

Biofire makes biometric handguns for home defense, built around the Guardian Biometric Engine that uses 3D infrared facial recognition and capacitive fingerprint sensing to authorize use. The gun unlocks when an authorized person picks it up and locks when it leaves their hand, and either biometric can unlock even with gloves or coverings; all biometric data stays on the firearm with no cloud storage. It is sold direct-to-consumer as a closed system with a portable Smart Dock that manages charging and user profiles. Biofire’s goal is to reduce preventable firearm injuries and deaths, especially among children, by ensuring firearms work only for their owner and by scaling production to broaden safe access.
