Requirements
  • At least 14 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or planning and coordinating capital projects involving overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities.
  • At least 4 years of this experience must involve the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public-agency projects.
  • A bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in architecture or engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect from the California State Architectural Board or a Professional Engineer license from the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is preferred but may support qualification.
  • Proof of residency in Southern California is required.
  • An updated resume, obtained certifications or licenses, three to four professional references, and a project list with project values, dates, and employer information must be provided during the submission process.
Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple projects, particularly seismic, critical repair, and retrofit projects.
  • Manage and supervise design professionals and other professionals through the design review process.
  • Manage, develop, and coordinate the district's architectural and engineering services design process to ensure plans meet functional-program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • Manage engineering repair and critical-repair projects through coordination with architects, consultants, and district personnel to ensure timely completion.
  • Oversee the building design process to ensure compliance with the school district's standards and guidelines.
  • Establish and follow a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and ability to meet performance standards.
  • Provide architects with clear and consistent direction regarding project goals, objectives, standards, sites, schedules, and budgets.
  • Establish and follow an effective design-review process to ensure designs meet project goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that budgeted funds provide maximum value and meet the functional needs of the district, local community, and environment.
  • Review submitted design changes to ensure projects remain within budget.
  • Monitor project planning and design status and report findings, recommendations, and updates.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
