Requirements
  • A valid Physical Therapy license in the state or states of practice, or proof of license and eligibility.
  • A Master's degree in Physical Therapy; or a Master's degree in a Physical Therapy related field in addition to a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy; or a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy plus five years of progressively responsible Physical Therapist experience.
  • Availability to travel to and temporarily reside in locations outside the therapist's primary home.
  • A qualifying Physical Therapy degree earned outside the United States must be evaluated as the United States equivalent of a Physical Therapy degree.
Responsibilities
  • Travel nationwide for 13-week assignments and work in various settings.
  • Assess patients and develop and deliver physical therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation.
  • Identify the need for referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address patients' comprehensive needs.
  • Implement individualized therapy programs designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance.
  • Instruct, educate, and train patients and caregivers in skills and functions that promote independence and productivity.
  • Direct activities that promote and maintain health.
  • Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel as necessary or applicable and in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
  • Deliver rehabilitation services effectively and efficiently while adhering to the plan of care, department and patient schedules, and documentation requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, and related meetings.
  • Consult with rehabilitation team members to select appropriate therapeutic regimens based on patient needs and capabilities.
  • Adapt programs and plans of care to individual patient needs.
  • Promote a safe environment and eliminate fire and safety hazards.
  • Order supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and identify and report repair needs.
  • Ensure patients and families receive high-quality service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes their needs and rights.
  • Screen, examine, and evaluate patients using history, systems review, appropriate tests and measures, information synthesis, and interpretation of findings to establish diagnoses, identify impairments, determine expected improvement, and design plans of care.
  • Develop treatment goals and methods with patients and caregivers, implement physical therapy treatment plans, and complete related documentation and record keeping.
  • Apply therapeutic techniques including therapeutic exercise, functional training, manual therapy, airway clearance techniques, integumentary repair and protection, and electrotherapeutic, physical agent, and mechanical modalities.
  • Design, fabricate, fit, and apply adaptive devices, and train patients to use orthotics and prosthetics.
  • Select activities appropriate to each patient's physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interests.
  • Instruct patients in mobility skills and techniques and evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior related to rehabilitative potential.
  • Perform routine reexaminations as needed to modify or progress treatment plans.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
