UT Health at The Dell Medical School is seeking an EMG Tech / Medical Assistant for Neurosciences.
Purpose
The Electromyographic (EMG) Technician / Medical Assistant is responsible for conducting electromyography (EMG) tests and nerve conduction studies (NCS) to diagnose neuromuscular disorders as well as medical assisting duties to support the neurology department. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, this role collaborates closely with neurologists, physical medicine specialists, and other healthcare providers. The EMG Tech / Medical Assistant ensures accurate data collection, patient preparation, and equipment maintenance. Peer roles include EEG Technicians and Neurodiagnostic Technologists and Certified Medical Assistants.
Responsibilities
Conduct EMG Tests
Prepare patients for EMG tests by explaining procedures.
Apply electrodes to patient muscles and record electrical activity.
Analyze test results and report findings to physicians.

Perform Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)
Set up and calibrate NCS equipment.
Conduct NCS to assess nerve impulse transmission.
Document and interpret test results.
Assist with Patient Care
Take patient histories, perform medication reconciliation and collect vital signs.
Assist with patient mobility and comfort during procedures.
Provide post-procedure care instructions.
Maintain Equipment
Calibrate and maintain EMG and NCS equipment.
Troubleshoot equipment issues.
Ensure proper functionality and accuracy of diagnostic tools.
Clinical Administrative Duties
Maintain patient records and test documentation.
Complete prior authorizations and perform day to day clinical inbox management.
Schedule appointments and manage patient flow, as needed.
Marginal or Periodic Functions
Assist in Research Projects
Participate in clinical research related to neuromuscular disorders, as needed.
Training and Education
Assist in the training of new staff on EMG and NCS procedures.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. One year of relevant experience in electromyography or neurodiagnostic testing. BLS/CPR.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree in Neurodiagnostics or related field. 2 years of experience in a clinical setting performing EMG and NCS. 1 year of experience working as a medical assistant in an outpatient clinical setting. Certification by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) or equivalent or Registered Electromyography Technologist (R. EMG T) certification. Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA or NRCMA).
Salary Range
$43,700+ depending on qualifications
