Requirements
  • The candidate must be a Doctor of Nursing Practice-prepared Family Nurse Practitioner educated at an accredited institution.
  • The candidate must be self-directed and organized.
  • The candidate must demonstrate clinical expertise.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of Microsoft Office, Canvas, and the internet.
  • The candidate must hold an unencumbered New York State Professional Registered Nurse license.
  • The candidate must hold current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification for the Professional Rescuer or Health Provider.
  • The candidate must hold Family Nurse Practitioner certification.
  • The employee must be able to sit and stand for extended periods, operate standard office equipment, use a telephone, read computer screens and printed materials, hear and communicate effectively, and perform physical movements including standing, walking, bending, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, and lifting or carrying up to human body weight to simulate clinical scenarios.
Responsibilities
  • Provide ongoing curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation of classroom and clinical instruction.
  • Advise students and participate in registration activities.
  • Participate actively in Department of Nursing committees and activities that promote interaction between students and the academic environment.
  • Maintain a frequent and active presence on campus, remain available for student counseling and advising, and be on campus at least three full days per week.
  • Meet the assigned course load and 18 annual contact hours assigned by the Chairperson each semester or year.
  • Attend mandatory faculty meetings, college and departmental functions, and informational sessions.
  • Maintain punctuality and attendance for all assigned teaching commitments and make up missed classes or clinical sessions.
  • Maintain at least four posted office hours per week and remain available for appointments outside office hours when necessary.
  • Inform students of mid-term and end-term progress during advisement meetings.
  • File a course outline or syllabus for every course with the Chairperson, including objectives, topics, requirements, assignments, test dates, and evaluation criteria, and distribute it at the beginning of each semester.
  • Review Registrar rosters and report discrepancies.
  • Complete attendance rosters from the Registrar and verify all student attendance.
  • Submit final grades to the Registrar in a timely manner.
  • As a Course Coordinator for courses with a clinical laboratory, manage the course, plan the curriculum, develop and distribute the syllabus, develop tests, schedule class and clinical sessions, correspond with clinical instructors and clinical facilities, and teach a clinical section when needed.
  • Participate in committees, including preparing, writing, and editing accreditation reports, candidacy drafts, and self-study reports for the accrediting agency and the State.
  • Attend professional development conferences, seminars, and meetings, including occasional local travel for training sessions or meetings.
  • Work occasional evenings for information sessions and occasional weekends.
