Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline is required.
- Alternatively, an Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is required.
- At least three years of clinical experience is required.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the ASCP Board of Certification or equivalent, or a relevant categorical certification, is required.
- Alternatively, certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the ASCP Board of Certification or equivalent is required.
- External candidates must complete Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements within the stated six-month period for the Medical Laboratory Technician pathway or 90-day period for the Medical Laboratory Scientist pathway.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing assigned to the department.
- Recognize unusual test results and resolve discrepancies.
- Establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.
- Troubleshoot instruments and other laboratory problems or issues.
- Maintain knowledge of all current Standard Operating Procedures required to work effectively.
- Develop, draft, and revise Standard Operating Procedures and training documents.
- Develop validation and verification plans, test cases, and validation and verification summaries.
- Maintain communication with the department and other Laboratory Services personnel.
