Funding Circle runs a peer-to-peer lending platform that connects small businesses seeking loans with investors, bypassing traditional banks. Borrowers submit online loan requests and investors fund parts of the loan; the platform provides credit assessment, risk scoring, and ongoing loan management. It differentiates itself from competitors with its scale, international expansion, and a London IPO in 2018, operating as a marketplace rather than originating loans itself. Its goal is to help small businesses access finance more efficiently while giving investors a straightforward way to deploy capital and earn returns, supported by ongoing technology improvements.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • H1 2026 revenue rose 50% to about £138m, with pre-tax profit near £23m.
  • FlexiPay transactions grew 71% to £640m, expanding non-loan payment revenue.
  • A renewed £200m Deutsche Bank facility and £320m FlexiPay line support growth.

What critics are saying

  • Demand normalized after a strong Q1, exposing seasonal volatility into second-half results.
  • FlexiPay still loses money during expansion, with marketing and credit losses outrunning monetization.
  • Reliance on wholesale funding lines creates refinancing risk if banks reprice or withdraw support.

What makes Funding Circle unique

  • Founded in 2010, it shifted from peer-to-peer to institutional lending in 2022.
  • It now serves only UK SMEs after selling U.S. operations in July 2024.
  • Proprietary AI credit models and capital-light funding underpin its platform.

We've been named one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026.

We've been named one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026. Published on: 16th June 2026 The results are in. Funding Circle has officially made The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026 list in the Big Organisation category. This recognition belongs entirely to our team. Every single day, Circlers show up ready to back UK small businesses with the funding they need to win. Last year, we launched our 'People Pact' - a shared commitment to be all in, grow fast, and make a real difference together. What makes this award special is that it is decided by the team. It comes on the back of a record 74% employee engagement score in 2025, which jumped 10 points in just twelve months. "We are incredibly proud of this recognition," says Lisa Jacobs, our CEO. "Our success comes down to the hard work of our team. We invest heavily in our culture to make sure everyone has the environment they need to do their best work. Because of their dedication, we put billions of pounds of credit into the hands of thousands of UK small businesses every year." The work we do reaches far beyond finance. In 2025, the lending through Funding Circle's platform, made possible by its team of Circlers, helped support 117,000 jobs and added £7.9 billion to the UK economy. We want to build a workplace where everyone, no matter their background or experience, has the confidence to be themselves. When our people thrive, small businesses thrive.
