Requirements
  • The applicant must have completed one semester of training at an accredited Radiologic Technology program and currently be a student in good standing at an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • The applicant must understand x-ray principles, procedures, and standards.
  • The applicant must understand the physical and operational characteristics of radiologic equipment.
  • The applicant must have verbal and written communication skills.
  • The applicant must have interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other team members.
  • The applicant must be able to configure and adjust x-ray equipment.
  • The applicant must be able to alleviate patient anxiety.
  • The applicant must be able to understand and comply with applicable safety regulations.
  • The role requires constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment and attention to radiation, biohazard, and chemical safety considerations.
  • The role requires constant lifting and carrying of more than 100 pounds, along with bending, crouching or stooping, kneeling, pushing or pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, twisting, and walking.
Responsibilities
  • The technician administers radiographic examinations under a radiologist's or physician's request and supervision.
  • The technician prepares the room and positions the patient to obtain the optimum view.
  • The technician positions equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
  • The technician uses beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to the patient and self.
  • The technician maintains stock supplies and performs general office duties such as delivering and retrieving film, typing forms, scheduling patients, and maintaining records.
  • The technician explains procedures to patients to alleviate anxiety and obtain cooperation.
