Hexagon Energy announces agreement with Weyerhaeuser for strategic development of Geothermal projects across Oregon and Washington. Hexagon Energy Sep 10, 2026, 08:00 ET The agreement will encompass nearly 150,000 acres and an estimated 3 GW of geothermal electricity generating capacity potential in the Pacific Northwest. SEATTLE and CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ - Hexagon Energy, an independent energy development company with a long history of successful energy development across the United States, and Weyerhaeuser Company, one of the world's largest private owners of timberlands and a leading manufacturer of wood products in North America, announced the closing of a strategic agreement for the development of Geothermal projects across a suite of landholdings throughout the Weyerhaeuser land portfolio in Washington and Oregon. Under this agreement, Hexagon Energy will develop geothermal projects on Weyerhaeuser's landholdings across two critical states with significant geothermal power generation potential. Weyerhaeuser's commitment to responsible land stewardship, including recreation, conservation, economic development, and different forms of renewable energy, aligns well with the development of geothermal power. "Geothermal energy represents an emerging opportunity to provide clean and reliable, around-the-clock power, and our ownership presents a unique platform to evaluate that potential in the Pacific Northwest, said Kendall Fountain, vice president of Energy and Natural Resources for Weyerhaeuser. "This agreement supports the continued growth of our Climate Solutions business while aligning with our commitment to responsible land stewardship, sustainability and long-term value creation." The collaboration comes at a time when demand for geothermal energy is rapidly increasing, driven by a rising demand for baseload, carbon-free power. "We are excited to partner with Weyerhaeuser to develop this significant geothermal resource and bring abundant, clean, baseload energy to the Pacific Northwest." said Matthew Hantzmon, Chief Executive Officer of Hexagon Energy. "Our team is grateful that Weyerhaeuser entrusted us to unlock this valuable asset for them." Hexagon has leased the geothermal rights on approximately 145,000 acres across Washington and Oregon. Once operational, this portfolio could bring over 3 GW of carbon-free power online. Weyerhaeuser advances AeroStrand LSL into market trials for smarter floor framing. Published on September 10, 2026 | Time: 10:52PM Weyerhaeuser is taking the next step in the development of AeroStrand(TM) Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL), moving the next-generation engineered wood floor system from its 2026 International Builders' Show debut into structured market trials with selected builders and industry partners. The move brings the innovation closer to real-world construction, where builders, engineers, architects and trades can assess how it performs on the jobsite. The development addresses a practical challenge facing modern residential construction: creating sufficient space for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems while maintaining the structural requirements of the floor system. When AeroStrand LSL was unveiled at IBS in February, Weyerhaeuser positioned the product as a new approach to floor framing that could help reduce coordination challenges and construction complexity. Creating More Space Within the Frame AeroStrand LSL is built on Weyerhaeuser's established TimberStrand(R) LSL technology, combining the material's proven strength, stability and straightness with a new castellated design featuring pre-cut openings. These openings are intended to provide dedicated pathways for MEP installations, allowing trades to work with the framing rather than continually working around structural components. The need for such flexibility is becoming increasingly important as residential buildings incorporate larger HVAC systems, more sophisticated electrical layouts and increasingly complex plumbing requirements. These systems can create additional coordination between framing crews and subsequent trades, potentially adding time and complexity to the construction process. Weyerhaeuser says AeroStrand LSL is designed to create intentional open space within the framing system, with the goal of making installation easier and improving workflow. The company has also positioned the product as a potentially more predictable, fully engineered flooring solution that could reduce cost and complexity, shorten lead times and support flatter, higher-quality floors. From IBS to Real-World Market Trials The latest phase marks an important transition for AeroStrand LSL. Following its introduction at IBS, the product has advanced into structured market trials involving selected builders and industry partners. The trials will allow participants to evaluate AeroStrand LSL in real-world applications, with feedback expected to cover installation, trade accessibility and the overall jobsite experience. Weyerhaeuser also plans to use feedback from builders, engineers, architects, dealers and trade professionals to understand where the system can deliver meaningful value across different home designs and construction methods. This field-testing approach is particularly significant because the value of a framing innovation is ultimately determined not only by its structural capabilities, but also by how effectively it integrates into the wider construction workflow. By taking AeroStrand LSL from the trade-show floor to active jobsite trials, Weyerhaeuser can gather practical insight before determining the product's broader commercial path. For now, AeroStrand LSL remains in development and is not available for general order. The company says its immediate focus is on learning, refining and validating the product through market trials. Weyerhaeuser's Engineered Wood Innovation AeroStrand LSL adds to Weyerhaeuser's long-standing portfolio of engineered wood products, which includes TimberStrand LSL and other structural solutions used across residential and commercial construction. Weyerhaeuser began operations in 1900 and today is one of North America's largest wood-products manufacturers and one of the world's largest private timberland owners. The company owns or controls more than 10 million acres of U.S. timberlands and manages additional Canadian timberlands under long-term licences. In 2025, Weyerhaeuser reported $6.9 billion in net sales and approximately 9,500 employees. The company has continued to invest in engineered wood innovation as construction requirements evolve. At IBS 2026, Weyerhaeuser described AeroStrand LSL and its other new flooring innovation, ProPanel(TM), as products intended to make homebuilding more efficient, reliable and scalable. For AeroStrand LSL, the next stage will be shaped by what happens in the field. The market trials provide an opportunity to test whether intentional openings within an engineered floor system can translate into smoother MEP installation, better trade coordination and a more efficient construction workflow. As Weyerhaeuser continues gathering feedback from industry partners, AeroStrand LSL remains an early-stage innovation - but one that is now moving beyond the concept phase and into the practical realities of the jobsite.
