Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a job-related field with 24 semester hours in accounting.
  • Five years of accounting experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, organize, and analyze effectively and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use data retrieval applications.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare daily and/or monthly account reconciliations of a complex nature and ensure compliance with applicable contract, business, accounting, regulatory, and departmental requirements.
  • Maintain the general ledger, process journal entries, and generate financial reports.
  • Review, analyze, and/or verify complex accounting and system transactions; identify, resolve, and/or document variances; and provide accounting information to operational areas.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities in accordance with internal procedures and established timelines.
  • Complete assigned reports and produce management reports on cost behavior, trends, variances, and other information applicable to the line of business.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and process adjusting entries while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Review and provide support for account reconciliation activities performed in other accounting areas and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Maintain current work instructions and review departmental policies, procedures, and forms for potential improvements.
  • Suggest updates and improvements or prepare preliminary drafts of departmental policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Assist the supervisor with special projects.
  • Interface with internal and external audit agencies.
  • Provide guidance and training to other accountants.
  • Consult with other areas and provide advice on complex accounting principles.
