We are looking for highly motivated candidate for the role of Laboratory Technician to support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services within our Biological Media support team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparation of a wide range of sterile media, reagents, and agar plates
- Support of Media for Automation and Technical Workstreams
- Ensuring the continued delivery of Media to the customer
Qualifications/Personal Qualities
- Science background or interest with qualifications in GCSE Grade A*-C/9-5 or equivalent in Math’s, Science and English
- Experience working in a laboratory environment ideally
- Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
- Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
- Problem-solving capabilities and ability to make clear decisions and good organizational skills o Self-motivated, energetic, dependable with a clear attention to detail
- Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team members. Ability to work independently
- Ability to collaborate with other support teams
- Computer literacy and able to communicate using various platforms
- Knowledge of Data Integrity and Health and Safety principles is preferable though will be trained
Physical/Mental Demands
The overall physical exertion of this position requires:
- Sit or stand 5-6 hours a day in laboratory areas
- Sit or stand 1-2 hours a day in office area at provided PC/Laptop
- Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery and in modern office arenas, undertaking several different tasks
- Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory
- Work with laboratory chemicals and samples

Detailed Job Responsibilities:
- Preparation of a wide range of sterile media, reagents and agar plates
- Preparation of competent cells
- Purification of plasmid preparations
- Working within an aseptic environment
- Support the ongoing resourcing of Automation platforms
- Review of site media stocks and delivery to lab pick-up areas
- To order reagents and lab consumables as required through the appropriate on-site ordering systems
- To undertake routine lab housekeeping including preparation, maintenance, cleaning & calibration of laboratory equipment such as automated liquid handlers, biosafety cabinets & incubators.
- To carry out sterility checks routinely.
- To be responsible for maintaining a tidy and efficient laboratory environment
- To undertake daily liaison with scientific staff and other team members
- Ensure compliance with all relevant working instructions, agreed protocols, SOPs and Risk Assessments
- Comply with all occupational health and safety rules and regulations. Be aware of hazards and recommendations for safety improvements if necessary
- Perform work to the principles of Data Integrity
- Maintain QA systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achieved
- Work flexibly depending on team priorities and support requirements
- Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager
