Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition, or a related field is required; a Master's degree in a related field is also listed.
  • Zero to two years of experience in product development, production, or quality assurance in the food industry is required, with educational experience commensurate to work experience.
  • Experience using GENESIS or similar nutritional databases is beneficial.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft applications is required.
  • A thorough working knowledge of food chemistry, food unit operations, and food microbiology is required.
  • Ability to apply academic learning to practical product development activities is required.
  • Ability to understand and follow Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices is required.
  • Ability to record observations thoroughly and interpret trial outcomes and data is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization is required.
  • Ability to learn new processes and techniques and adapt to them is required.
  • Ability to adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices, food safety, workplace safety, and security policies and wear required personal protective equipment is required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and stand, walk, bend, reach, push, and pull is required.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with product development activities, including conducting product development trials and evaluating and sharing trial results with the broader team.
  • Support the product development and regulatory teams in thoroughly reviewing new product concept development within the Stage-Gate process as needed.
  • Work with product development, quality, and supply chain teams to source new or replacement ingredients for product development and renovation.
  • Assist in developing or updating process development to support product quality, including the effects of ingredient interactions and unit operations on formulations.
  • Support Operations and Quality Assurance teams in addressing product-quality-related corrective and preventive actions to maintain the quality of existing medical nutrition products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
