Backend Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Seattle Only (Downtown Seattle)

The Challenge

Certivo is developing a complex ecosystem of AI agents, each specializing in critical aspects of compliance management:

• A core AI agent orchestrating operations
• Document parsing agents extracting vital data
• Regulatory capture agents monitoring evolving regulations
• Compliance evaluation agents assessing product conformity
• Communication generation agents crafting tailored messages
• Observability agents ensuring optimal system performance

The Opportunity

As our Backend Engineer , you will be Data Focused building innovative pipelines and ingestion schemes to process thousands of compliance documents (PDFs, CSVs etc) :

• Using LLM powered tools and RAG pipelines to Develop efficient data ingestion pipelines and document stores for processing complex product data (e.g Bill of Materials data, product material specification sheets etc)

• Implement AI-powered document parsing workflows using AWS Lambda and other serverless technologies mixed with LLM and intelligent document parsing

• Design and manage data integrations with ERPs and Product Lifecycle Management Software (PLM) with APIs

• Create a backend and optimize SQL for our PostgreSQL databases on AWS RDS and design it for scalability and performance.

• Set up and manage API gateways for secure and efficient data transfer

• Build and Deploy Rest APIs and other API interfaces

• Implement data observability solutions to ensure system reliability and performance

• Design scalable systems to handle growing data volumes and our user base

• Build and work with AI Agents to orchestrate tasks (using popular agent frameworks like LangChain/ LangGraph)
• Work with the engineering team to experiment and design with AI based development techniques and strategies to make our product stand out from a traditional SaaS application.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has 5+ years or so of backend development experience, with expertise in Python and backend Data Technologies, REST APIs  and AWS services and Relational databases like PostGres. Must be able to work with traditional relational database and AI tooling like vector databases. Our front-end will be NextJS and React/Typescript, but this role is primarily focused on the backend. You will be building services to support the front-end. These could data focused or other services like email communication, data ingestion or data integration

• Excels at designing and implementing complex data processing workflows

• Is passionate about microservice engineering and creating efficient, scalable backend systems

• Has experience working with document processing, ERPs, and building robust APIs in node, express, python or similar technologies. AI Focus is a must.

• Is comfortable with SQL, particularly PostgreSQL, and designing efficient database schemas as well as some experience with Vector Databases 

•  Has a keen interest in AI and Agentic Workflows, particularly in the context of data processing and uses AI driven development as much as possible. RAG Focused.

• Is familiar with email communication services and implementing automated messaging systems

• Has a passion for AI, a general understanding of how to apply LLMs and AI Services to Data processing.

• Has experience with AWS services like Lambda, RDS, API Gateway, and S3

Experience building a RAG pipeline for document processing with Vector Databases: (Any experience in this space is a plus)

• Ability to setup ETL, ELT and realtime data pipelines to classify, ingest and update document sets using AI Tooling specifically for RAG
• Familiarity with LLM Agentic frameworks like LangChain/LangGraph is a big advantage
• Able to administer CI/CD tools as needed to deploy and orchestrate services.

Our Interview Process:

1. Initial Conversation: Discuss your experience and our AI-driven platform

2. AI-Enhanced Backend Focused, Take Home Coding Challenge: Implement a data processing or REST API and showcase it integrating with AI tools and/or AWS services - you will code, put on GitHub, and we will review. We love it if you use as many AI-driven tools as possible to showcase this, but we need someone with the expertise and experience to know when to automate and when to dive in manually into code. We will review and then schedule a call to discuss it with you.  Alternatively: Focus in depth on a related project or work you did in backend / AI with and review with Certivo team.

3. On-Site Visit: Meet the team, dive into our architecture, and participate in a short collaborative coding session (not a test, more of a collaborative brainstorming session), we want us both to enjoy working together.
