Requirements
  • A high school education or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, reach, lift items weighing 40 pounds or less, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, climb, push, twist, and pull; standing or walking comprises approximately 95% of the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally climb and balance using a step stool.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions including lifting, keypad entry, chopping, filling, and sealing packaging, using both hands to grasp, grip, move, or operate objects and equipment.
  • Ability to follow HACCP standards, school food regulations, health department sanitation standards, safety precautions, menus, recipes, portion sizes, and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to learn and operate a point-of-sale system and reconcile monies daily.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English, including electronic mail and computer use, and to read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to complete required PGI classes and annual USDA mandatory professional standards training.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, provide customer service, organize and manage time, adapt to varied assignments and conditions, and follow District policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple schools based on site needs and to work a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily preparation of the school lunch program.
  • Set up and clean serving areas for timely student service, including dishwashing and sanitation of work stations.
  • Use kitchen equipment properly and clean equipment according to safety requirements.
  • Serve meals daily while complying with school food regulations and health department sanitation standards.
  • Take and record food cooking and serving temperatures as required by HACCP standards.
  • Follow menu and recipe instructions and prepare food according to required temperatures, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Assist with unloading and properly storing delivered food items.
  • Operate the point-of-sale system and reconcile monies daily for accuracy.
  • Build positive relationships with Nutrition Services staff, school staff, students, parents, and the surrounding community.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Participate in required training and provide sustainable solutions in response to regulatory changes.
  • Prepare, serve, and sell meals in compliance with department regulations, including washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruits, vegetables, and meat.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
