Requirements
  • Must meet all company criteria for performing safety-sensitive functions, including passing applicable background and drug screenings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members and the public.

  • Capability to learn and safely operate truck mechanisms and route tools.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, and balance throughout the shift.

  • Good depth perception, peripheral vision, close and distance vision, and color recognition.
  • Ability to work outdoors for up to 100% of the shift in varying weather conditions and around motor vehicle traffic.
  • Valid work authorization in Canada is required.
Responsibilities
  • Collect solid waste, organic, and recyclable materials from customer premises or curbside and load materials into the vehicle's rear or side compartments.
  • Safely operate hydraulic compaction equipment and mechanism controls on the truck.
  • Work with the driver and route supervisor to follow predetermined route standards and suggest efficiency improvements.
  • Sort materials into designated compartments as required; assist with sorting, cleaning carts, managing pallets and containers, and operating warehouse compactors as needed.
  • Direct the driver during backing maneuvers and tight-space navigation to ensure safe vehicle operation.
  • Verify the truck is equipped with necessary tools, such as a broom, shovel, and spill kits, before departing the branch.
  • Assist the driver in keeping the interior cab and exterior of the vehicle clean and well-maintained.
  • Follow personal, vehicle, and equipment safety checks and comply with federal, provincial, local, and company safety rules.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including a high-visibility safety vest, work boots, safety glasses, and gloves.
  • Identify and tag prohibited waste items, notify the driver or supervisor, and remove non-compliant items from carts or cans.
  • Participate in mandatory branch and safety meetings.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude when interacting with customers and the public.
  • Immediately report customer concerns, damaged equipment, or route obstacles to the driver or supervisor.
  • Perform other operational duties assigned by management.
Desired Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
  • One to three months of related experience in labor, route assistance, or waste management is preferred but not required.
  • A valid driver's license is a plus but not required.

GFL Environmental launches two RNG facilities with OPAL Fuels to power 800 heavy-duty trucks

OPAL Fuels and GFL Environmental have begun construction on two renewable natural gas facilities at landfills in Georgia and Alabama. The projects will convert landfill methane into approximately 15 million gasoline gallon equivalents of RNG annually, enough to fuel roughly 800 Class 8 trucks. The expansion deepens GFL's partnership with OPAL Fuels in decarbonising transportation and building RNG infrastructure. However, the development doesn't substantially alter GFL's near-term investment narrative, which remains focused on integrating past acquisitions, managing high leverage and delivering on 2026 revenue guidance. GFL recently authorised share buybacks of up to 34.7 million shares and increased its dividend by 10%. Analysts project the company's revenue could reach CA$8.6 billion by 2029, implying 8.8% annual growth.

GFL to acquire Secure Waste for $6.4B, adding 80+ facilities across Western Canada

GFL Environmental has agreed to acquire Secure Waste Infrastructure for $6.4 billion, expanding its presence in Western Canada and North Dakota. The deal includes over 80 locations comprising 12 landfills, 55 waste treatment facilities, 12 recycling facilities, 98 injection wells and five transfer stations. Secure shareholders can choose $24.75 in cash, 0.4195 GFL subordinate voting shares, or a combination for each share held. Cash payments are capped at 20% of the total consideration, with GFL shares limited to 80%. GFL founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said the acquisition will densify the company's Western Canada footprint and enhance its ability to offer comprehensive waste management services. The transaction requires shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
