Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in audio or podcast production.
  • A track record of recording studio interviews and mixing and editing long-form audio and news-format programs.
  • Experience working with creative contributors, responding to feedback, and helping develop a podcast’s sonic footprint.
  • Expertise in sound, including staying current with new techniques, processes, and software in the audio space.
  • Ability to think critically and develop innovative ways to use resources for varied needs and use cases.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals that distinguish podcasts from other news formats.
  • Commitment to CBC News values around local service, audio strategy, and Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Candidates may be required to complete skills and knowledge testing.
  • Candidates who advance in the recruitment process must complete a mandatory criminal record check and may be subject to other operationally required background checks.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and production of CBC News Podcast projects under the oversight of a CBC News Podcasts Executive or Senior Producer.
  • Support CBC News teams in building podcast content from original, enterprise, and investigative journalism.
  • Coordinate and execute the recording and production of interviews in podcast format.
  • Mix and edit podcast episodes, promos, trailers, and other audio assets in coordination with the producer and senior producer.
  • Source clips, archival tape, music, and sound for podcast projects.
  • Manage all audio files associated with podcasts for current and future use.
  • Equip and guide journalists on best practices for recording audio in the field.
  • Edit and mix episodes in accordance with CBC News Podcasts’ strategy and Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Coordinate and execute the publishing of podcast episodes and metadata.
  • Book studios, record interviews, troubleshoot technical issues with software and audio equipment, and work with producers to edit and mix podcast episodes.
  • Suggest edits and respond to edit notes.
