Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year experience in a Physical Therapy Department working in an aide position utilizing modalities as indicated in the Major Functions, Duties and Responsibilities area
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English and effectively communicate with patients, Physical Therapists and other departments
  • Ability to report patient issues, departmental concerns, or interdepartmental problems to the supervising therapist
  • Ability to read and understand the policy and procedure manual
  • Demonstrated compliance with safety, hazardous waste, and infection control procedures
  • Ability to utilize proper body mechanics with patients in order to prevent injury to patient or self
  • Ability to work assigned shifts, approved overtime, and weekends as requested
  • Adherence to all departmental policies and procedures, including annual updates of emergency procedures
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training (Los Angeles City) certification; if no card upon hire, must obtain within 30 days and maintain renewal before expiration (required within LA City only)
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences field
Responsibilities
  • Assists the Physical Therapist in treating patients, which may involve applications of heat, cold, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, JOBST compression, whirlpool, massage or monitoring an established exercise program, and demonstrates competency in the utilization of all modalities and their precautions and contraindications
  • Follow all safety procedures and departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain patient rights including privacy, informed consent, confidentiality, right to refuse treatments, as outlined in the Patient's Rights Policy
  • Maintain a safe environment
  • Work with the team to promote the highest quality patient care possible
  • Identify situations requiring a Physical Therapist’s attention within the first 30 days of employment
  • Obtain information to have a current knowledge base for child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations; attend one in-service per month applicable to job duties
  • After receiving training, pass the CPR written test and practical demonstration
  • Assist a Physical Therapy Coordinator or the PMR Director as requested within scope of capabilities
  • Write accurate daily treatment notes
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the science behind modalities utilized
  • Perform all basic duties to the satisfaction of a PT Coordinator according to the job’s performance appraisal
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are orderly and clean, set up treatment areas, clean hydrotherapy tanks following department procedures, clean equipment as necessary, report unsafe equipment or conditions
  • Learn to assist with basic receptionist tasks, including answering phone calls, transferring calls, using office equipment, greeting patients, notifying therapists of arrivals, and directing them to appropriate areas
  • Communicate effectively and document as required
