Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program or completion of a Master of Science in Nursing or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Current Florida licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant-Certified.
  • Board certification via the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Active Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Burn Life Support, and, if possible, Advanced Trauma Life Support certifications.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in daily rounds with surgeons and general surgery residents and assist with patient care in Pediatric Critical Care, Step-Down, and Acute Care Floors.
  • Coordinate perioperative care, including social work involvement and consultations.
  • Communicate with nursing staff, other advanced practice providers, and attending physicians; provide patient education and support.
  • Manage wounds and perform surgical dressing changes.
  • Oversee discharge planning and facilitate multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Provide primary responsibility for neonatal intensive care unit patients, including pre-rounding and rounding, perioperative care, order entry, consent management, documentation, bedside procedure support, and responding to pages via PerfectServe.
  • Assist surgeons in the trauma bay with procedures and supplies; document trauma admission histories and physicals; facilitate orders, consultations, and patient needs; communicate with families; and perform tertiary trauma surveys.
  • Lead the outpatient burn clinic, including patient education, debridement, dressing changes, and documentation.
  • Oversee inpatient burn care and sedated or operating-room debridement procedures; communicate findings with surgeons; and assist with surgical debridement and grafting.
  • Coordinate outpatient follow-up, supplies, and patient education; obtain preoperative consents; complete histories and physicals; and assist the post-anesthesia care unit with perioperative issues and discharges.
  • Evaluate pediatric surgical consults at Arnold Palmer and Winnie Palmer Hospitals; order and interpret imaging and laboratory tests; determine disposition; document consults; and staff with on-call physicians.
  • Schedule outpatient follow-up, prepare discharge paperwork, facilitate operating-room scheduling, and place preoperative orders.
  • Conduct advanced practice provider clinic visits for postoperative care, trauma rechecks, and acute care; assist surgeons with bedside procedures.
  • Perform administrative tasks including paperwork, scheduling, front desk support, phone triage, and coordination with community physicians and specialists.
  • Run a weekly laser hair removal clinic for pilonidal sinus disease and potentially attend satellite and specialty clinics.
  • Prepare minutes for monthly mortality and morbidity meetings and maintain REDCap patient tracking and documentation.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, guideline implementation, educational conferences, unit-based quality initiatives, and continuing education activities.
  • Support the education of students, residents, advanced practice provider fellows, and new team members when applicable.
  • Attend General Surgery department meetings and Children's Surgery meetings, with encouraged participation in PIPS reviews, Pediatric Grand Rounds, and advanced practice provider fellowship committee meetings.
  • Provide holiday or overnight/weekend trauma call coverage when required by staffing needs, residency program changes, or service demands.
Desired Qualifications
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification is preferred.
  • Primary Care Pediatric Nurse qualification may be considered based on experience.
