Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • The candidate must be at least 18 years old.
  • The candidate must be able to function in a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate organizational, customer service, and prioritization skills.
  • The candidate must obtain CPR certification within three months of hire.
  • The role requires use of universal precautions and compliance with bloodborne pathogen standards for exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
  • The candidate must be able to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear, and lift or exert force of up to 30 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of the registered nurse team lead or administrative clinical supervisor as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide assistance with select patient and unit needs, clerical duties, and tasks that keep the patient unit supplied, safe, and clean.
  • Immediately report observed changes in patient behavior or condition to the primary nurse and report health-related patient complaints to the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
  • Call the appropriate emergency code when needed.
  • Assist patients with safe ambulation and mobilization, including transfers to and from beds or chairs for bathroom needs when monitoring one patient.
  • Conduct room safety sweeps and remove potentially hazardous items whenever possible.
  • Monitor applied restraints to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist staff with dressing and undressing patients and securing clothing and belongings according to company standards.
  • Deliver meal trays and assist with meal setup.
  • Maintain a professional and safe appearance, including avoiding items around the neck that could be used as a weapon.
  • Document observations, including restraint observations, in the medical record as instructed and within designated timeframes.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and discuss patient information only with the assigned nurse and physician.
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically with patients, listen to and acknowledge complaints, and refer complaints to the nurse.
  • Maintain infection prevention standards during all activities.
  • Maintain personal and professional boundaries, including refraining from sharing personal information.
  • Answer call lights and secure appropriate resources to address patient needs.
  • Perform hourly rounding for patient experience and safety checks according to unit standards.
  • Stock equipment and supplies and monitor for expired items.
  • Transport patients within the hospital as needed.
  • Answer telephones and complete assigned clerical duties.
  • Assist with overall unit organization and cleanliness.

  • Prior healthcare experience is preferred.
