Bandwidth earns ISO/IEC 42001 certification for enterprise AI management.

Bandwidth earns ISO/IEC 42001 certification for enterprise AI management. What does an AI certification have to do with the infrastructure behind enterprise voice systems? Increasingly, quite a lot. Bandwidth announced on August 20 that it has achieved ISO/IEC 42001 certification for its artificial intelligence management system, covering products, processes, and operations across its global organization. The certification gives Bandwidth a recognized framework for managing AI risks as enterprises put more AI-powered communications systems into production. What ISO/IEC 42001 certification means. ISO/IEC 42001 is an international standard for artificial intelligence management systems. Introduced in 2023, the standard establishes requirements for developing, maintaining, and continually improving how organizations manage AI. Rather than certifying the performance of a specific AI model, ISO/IEC 42001 focuses on organizational governance. That includes risk management, accountability, transparency, oversight, and processes for responsible AI development and use. Bandwidth says its certification extends beyond an individual application or department. Its scope covers the company's products, internal processes, and worldwide operations. That distinction matters for enterprises using AI across communications infrastructure, where models may interact with telephony systems, orchestration tools, customer data, and automated workflows. Claim 50% OFF with this limited-time discount before prices go up! AI governance moves deeper into infrastructure. The announcement comes as voice AI and agentic systems become more closely integrated with customer service and communications platforms. Bandwidth cited Gartner forecasts suggesting that 90% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI by 2029. Gartner also expects 85% of global enterprises to require AI-enhanced security capabilities within their Communications Platform-as-a-Service (CPaaS) toolsets. For engineering and data teams, that creates a governance problem that extends beyond model development. Organizations also need controls around the infrastructure transporting data and connecting AI systems with customers. Bandwidth CIO Kade Ross pointed to control, observability, and auditability as key requirements as companies scale voice AI. Building on existing security standards. The ISO/IEC 42001 certification complements Bandwidth's existing ISO/IEC 27001 certification for information security. Bandwidth also owns and operates its communications network rather than relying entirely on third-party infrastructure. The company says this allows its AI management framework to extend across its Communications Cloud, Maestro orchestration platform, network operations, and associated AI capabilities. For enterprises evaluating AI infrastructure vendors, certifications such as ISO/IEC 42001 could become another factor in procurement and risk assessments. They do not eliminate the need for technical evaluation, but they provide evidence that formal AI governance processes exist beyond individual models and applications. What's next? As AI moves deeper into enterprise infrastructure, teams will need to think beyond model accuracy and consider governance, observability, security, and operational controls across the entire AI stack. At ODSC AI West 2026, practitioners and industry leaders will explore how organizations can build, evaluate, govern, and deploy production AI systems responsibly. If you're working on the transition from experimental AI to reliable enterprise systems, ODSC AI West offers an opportunity to learn directly from the people tackling those challenges in practice.
