Requirements
  • The candidate must have a high school education or equivalent, with combined experience and education accepted as a substitute.
  • The candidate must have experience performing standard trade-related procedures and general knowledge of trade-related methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • The candidate must have experience matching colors.
  • The candidate must be familiar with other trades, city and state building codes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations, standard safety practices and equipment, workplace safety requirements, and painting and gas codes.
  • The candidate must have a valid California driver's license and participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles Pull Notice System, with a Department of Motor Vehicles record required as a final condition of employment.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to the University of Southern California's Unifying Values.
  • The candidate must have at least five years of minimum work experience, with combined experience and education accepted as a substitute.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to journeymen and Zone Maintenance Technicians.
  • Perform standard painting procedures.
  • Determine the need to repair or replace equipment.
  • Estimate materials required for specific job components.
  • Participate in the Painter Pay for Knowledge and Skills Program, including on-the-job training.
  • Perform all assigned module tasks and demonstrate proficiency in the Painter Pay for Skills section independently or as part of a team.
  • Train journeymen and other employees in specific skills and tasks as required.
  • Perform standard painting, furniture refinishing, and decorating tasks using blueprints, specifications, and plans.
  • Perform plaster repair and other related repairs.
  • Finish drywall by taping.
  • Match colors.
  • Maintain a clean job site throughout the work and clean up the job site after completion.
  • Maintain safe working conditions for self and others.
  • Store and maintain supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Train journeymen, Zone Maintenance Technicians, and other employees in specific skills and tasks as required.
  • Identify additional training or define needs for new or continuing training that would benefit staff.
  • Prepare reports and maintenance records as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of a four-year apprenticeship program.
  • Related undergraduate study.
  • Five years of experience as a journeyman.
