Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma with 7 years of experience, or an associate degree with 5 years of experience.
  • Expertise in Freedom of Information Act processing and the ability to analyze information and apply FOIA guidelines to routine requests.
  • Experience using automated tools and case management systems such as Secure Release and FOIA Xpress.
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing records for accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • The ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Initiative, accountability, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to interact independently with government clients and stakeholders.
  • Written and verbal communication skills appropriate for formal government correspondence.
Responsibilities
  • Receive, review, log, and track incoming FOIA requests in agency FOIA case management systems.
  • Assist in conducting searches for responsive records across agency programs and electronic systems.
  • Review documents for completeness, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Apply established FOIA exemptions and markings following agency guidance and senior analyst review.
  • Organize and maintain FOIA case files to ensure accuracy, consistency, and audit readiness.
  • Prepare draft acknowledgment letters, interim responses, final responses, and routine correspondence.
  • Monitor statutory deadlines and independently track assigned cases to ensure timely processing.
  • Enter and maintain accurate data in FOIA tracking systems, spreadsheets, and reports.
  • Handle sensitive, confidential, and personally identifiable information in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, or potential issues and elevate them to senior staff.
  • Assist with FOIA metrics, reporting, and administrative support as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. § 552) and a basic understanding of FOIA exemptions and timelines.
  • Prior experience supporting FOIA, Privacy Act, records management, legal, or compliance programs within a federal government environment.
