Requirements
  • Five or more years of relevant engineering and technical policy experience including renewable energy design and interconnection tariff structures
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills

  • Strong understanding of distribution system impacts associated with the interconnection of distributed energy resources, and the ability to develop creative solutions to issues related to the interconnection of distributed energy resources to the electric power system
  • Experience with power systems modeling software such as SKM, Aspen, or PSSe
  • Utility system planning experience
  • Ability to autonomously manage third-party engineering firms to deliver on New Leaf Energy deadlines
  • Shows ability to develop and mentor less experienced engineers
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and provide actionable feedback on distribution- and ISO-level utility impact studies regarding accuracy, required system upgrades, project design changes, and cost reasonability
  • Assist project developers in the evaluation of potential photovoltaic sites and provide estimates of interconnection costs
  • Review interconnection drawings and application packages for compliance with relevant utility standards and regulatory obligations
  • Manage technical aspects of the interconnection process at the project level
  • Provide training and guidance to the internal engineering team
  • Participate in internal process time and quality improvement initiatives
  • Actively participate in different state- and industry-level technical policy working groups with the intent to advocate for policies and standards that facilitate New Leaf Energy's goals and mission
  • Attend field design meetings with relevant utility companies
  • Perform power systems modeling including coordination studies and effective grounding studies
  • Organize and manage external consultants to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries
Desired Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Professional Engineer license preferred
  • Experience leading advocacy for advancement in distributed energy resources interconnection technical policy
  • Strong understanding of various technical standards that relate to the interconnection of distributed energy resources including IEEE 1547-2018, IEEE 1547.1-2020, IEEE 1453-2015, IEEE C62.92.6, ANSI C84.1, IEEE 519-1992, NEC-Latest Edition
  • Knowledge of the design of generating facilities
  • Experience with power systems modeling software such as SKM, Aspen, or PSSe
  • Expert understanding of project deadlines, milestones and urgencies
  • Ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers

Standard Solar Acquires 84-Megawatt Community Solar Portfolio In Illinois, Demonstrates Unparalleled Leadership

ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Standard Solar, a leading commercial and community solar developer and asset owner, today announced the acquisition of an 84-megawatt community solar portfolio in Illinois. The combined capacity of these 14 projects will significantly contribute to Illinois' renewable energy generation goals of 100% clean energy by 2050, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing a more sustainable energy landscape. The portfolio consists of three sets of community solar gardens in Illinois: six sites with a capacity of approximately 47 MW, four sites totaling 12 MW, and four sites representing 25 MW. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2024, and most of the projects are projected to be finished by the year's end, with the remaining ones anticipated to be completed in 2025. Standard Solar purchased the milestone portfolio from developer New Leaf Energy. The partnership between the two companies is a testament to their dedication to expanding clean energy access to communities throughout Illinois
