Requirements
  • At least 6 months of sales and relationship-building experience is preferred.
  • Experience with basic Windows-based applications.
  • Basic math, grammar, and spelling skills to complete transactions.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond visually and auditorily to critical incidents, act swiftly in an emergency, and follow the branch emergency plan.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, guests, and volunteers.
  • Must be fingerprinted before reporting to work, with subsequent arrest notifications as required by licensing, state law, and government funders.
  • Must obtain Adult and Child/Infant CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute.
Responsibilities
  • Model YMCA character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through actions and conversations with members.
  • Educate members about the YMCA as a nonprofit charitable organization.
  • Promote membership and programs and advocate for the YMCA.
  • Monitor facility access by ensuring members and participants check in upon arrival.
  • Answer incoming phone calls courteously and promptly and route calls to appropriate departments and staff.
  • Use active listening to build member relationships, understand individual goals and interests, and assist members in achieving those goals.
  • Maintain working knowledge of branch and association programs to communicate information to members and participants.
  • Greet, interview, and tour prospective members using cause-driven sales and engagement techniques.
  • Process membership sales, upgrades, downgrades, and renewals accurately using proper administrative procedures.
  • Conduct engagement and conversion efforts for membership inquiries and tours that do not result in a membership.
  • Conduct member retention and communication efforts regarding debt collection and membership renewals.
  • Process insufficient-payment collection transactions accurately.
  • Process membership cancellation requests with the intent to retain members.
  • Implement, distribute, and communicate membership marketing campaigns and sales-related promotions.
  • Connect members to programs and services and process program enrollments to increase service utilization.
  • Process cash and other transactions in accordance with cash-handling, association, and branch policies.
  • Process program enrollment transfers and age overrides.
  • Build positive member relationships and cultivate YMCA member stories to increase participation in the Y’s Support Campaign.
  • Maintain knowledge of scholarship programs and assist members with completing applications.
  • Process membership and program scholarship applications.
  • Enter data accurately according to association data-entry procedures.
  • Complete end-of-shift procedures and balance and account for all transactions.
  • Process program enrollment transfers and overrides in TREC when necessary.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures and inform appropriate staff of policy or safety concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
