Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a BS or higher in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of industrial automation systems, PLC programming, SCADA systems, and control networks.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to work in Midland, TX, for the duration of the internship.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and optimization of automation systems supporting production, drilling, completions, and facilities operations.
  • Work with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), SCADA systems, remote monitoring solutions, and industrial communication networks to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and optimizing automation and control systems, including remote field devices, instrumentation, and telemetry systems.
  • Assist in the design, analysis, and optimization of secondary voltage electrical systems related to oil and gas operations, including power distribution, automation, and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including electrical, production, and facilities engineers, to ensure seamless integration of automation technologies.
  • Conduct data analysis and develop scripts or logic to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Conduct data analysis and troubleshooting for secondary voltage electrical equipment, such as generators, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and power distribution systems.
  • Participate in field visits to active production sites, drilling rigs, and other operational locations to gain hands-on experience with automation applications.
  • Develop technical documentation and support ongoing automation projects.
  • Prepare and present a culminating project to Diamondback senior management (CEO, COO, EVP, SVP, and VP) showcasing the work completed during the internship.
  • Engage in Diamondback philanthropic initiatives that benefit the Midland-Odessa community.
  • Gain invaluable insights into automation engineering in an Exploration & Production company while working alongside top professionals in the oil & gas industry.
Desired Qualifications
  • GPA of 3.2 or higher is preferred
  • Extracurricular achievements or prior work experience is desirable
