Responsibilities
  • Lead controls engineering activities for new product development and sustaining projects, ensuring electrical and firmware capabilities meet product and organizational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and quality requirements, including FDA and ISO standards, throughout product development and sustaining activities.
  • Develop and improve electrical and firmware engineering standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, and ensure technical feasibility, risk management, testing, and design activities are completed.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, and cross-functional stakeholders to establish priorities, milestones, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Provide leadership and development for engineering teammates through mentoring, coaching, feedback, onboarding, performance development, and technical skill growth.
  • Lead recruiting and workforce planning for electrical and firmware engineering capabilities and capacity.
  • Prioritize engineering resources and work across multiple projects and sustaining activities, monitor progress, resolve technical challenges, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Manage departmental performance and resources, including key performance indicators, continuous improvement initiatives, operating costs, budget planning, and functional capacity.
  • Lead the strategic use and management of third-party engineering resources for electrical and firmware development.
  • Provide engineering managers with feedback and development opportunities.
  • Provide technical vision and contribute to product and technology roadmaps by identifying and evaluating emerging technologies.
  • Plan resources for execution of projects in the portfolio.
  • Assist marketing and engineering with project scoping.
  • Collaborate with site leaders to ensure alignment and drive cross-functional projects.
  • Lead and direct the work of other teammates and exercise authority over personnel decisions.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience developing or sustaining products or managing engineering projects in a highly regulated environment such as medical devices or an FDA-regulated industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Program leadership experience as a technical lead or project manager.
  • Experience across all phases of product development from concept to launch.
  • Experience developing products designed for manufacturability.
  • Design for Six Sigma certification.

Midmark RTLS launches BLE Sensory Network for faster, scalable healthcare location tracking

Midmark RTLS has launched its Bluetooth Low Energy Sensory Network, offering healthcare facilities a faster, more cost-effective path to facility-wide real-time location tracking. The system uses plug-in BLE sensors to provide near-room location precision of 3-5 metres for staff, patients and equipment. The solution supports critical use cases including asset tracking and staff duress, with minimal infrastructure investment and rapid deployment. Midmark is also releasing a BLE/IR Hybrid Sensory Network in limited early release, combining BLE coverage with infrared technology for room-level precision to support advanced applications like nurse call automation and patient flow.
