Flow Power secures financing for 100 MW Bennetts Creek battery in Victoria's Latrobe Valley

Flow Power has secured financing from Westpac and SMBC to build the Bennetts Creek Battery Energy Storage System in Victoria, Australia. The project, backed by majority shareholder OPTrust, will deliver 100 MW of power with 223 MWh of storage capacity. Located in Victoria's Latrobe Valley near the decommissioned Hazelwood coal-fired power station, the facility will repurpose existing grid infrastructure. It marks Flow Power's first large-scale standalone battery system and its 11th project overall. The battery will use Wärtsilä's Quantum energy storage system with GEMS software for optimisation. Financing will also fund a new 66 kV transmission line to the Morwell terminal substation. Zenviron will manage construction, with technical support from Everoze, Aurecon and Aurora. The project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2028.
