- An associate degree from an accredited school of Radiological Technology is required.
- At least three months of clinical and on-the-job training is required.
- The candidate must be registry eligible or hold Registered Technologist (MR) and/or ARMRIT certification; registry-eligible technologists must obtain registration within six months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification is required within six months of hire.
- The candidate must be able to operate basic computer programs associated with departmental record keeping.
- The candidate must demonstrate communication, problem-solving, assertiveness, customer-service, organization, independent judgment, initiative, and leadership skills.
- The candidate must be able to stand and walk considerably, lift light-weight objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with lifting and moving patients.
- The candidate must demonstrate competencies specific to the patient population served.
- Operate MRI equipment for diagnostic purposes.
- Receive or escort patients into the examination area, review pertinent patient information, and instruct patients about the examination.
- Provide MRI services for all body parts according to policy and procedure while considering patient age and special characteristics.
- Complete services in a timely manner.
- Clean, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Report equipment problems to the supervisor and contact the manufacturer's service department when the supervisor is unavailable.
- Perform first aid and assist with adverse reactions to contrast media and other emergencies.
- Observe sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
- Provide quality MRI procedures for radiologist interpretation.
- Keep the supervisor informed of unusual matters and seek advice and counsel when needed.
- Maintain appropriate supply levels in assigned areas.
- Demonstrate or oversee on-the-job training for student technologists and other assigned non-professional assistants.
- Demonstrate or oversee on-the-job training for newly hired MRI technologists and technologists needing additional training for new procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service when answering the phone.
- Practice safety procedures specific to MRI.
- Participate in department growth and development through policy and procedure development, quality assurance activities, and continuing education for professional healthcare workers.
