Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience in a customer-focused or service setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer use is preferred.
  • Ability to perform specimen handling, documentation, infection prevention, equipment operation, and patient-care support tasks according to established protocols.
Responsibilities
  • Assist providers during examinations and perform clinical tasks supporting patient care in outpatient clinics.
  • Attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment, including a dynamapp, pulse oximeter, electrocardiograph, cardiac monitor, and pneumatic tourniquet.
  • Explain next steps, systems, and patient status; provide comfort and care; ensure supplies and equipment are available; and provide provider-prepared discharge instructions.
  • Maintain exam-room supplies and equipment, including stocking, cleaning, inventory rotation, expiration monitoring, requisitioning, order reconciliation, utilization tracking, and cost-reduction recommendations.
  • Escort patients, obtain vital signs, perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection as ordered, and label, log, and process specimens according to protocol.
  • Enter patient data, condition, and care provided into the electronic medical record system.
  • Implement infection-prevention measures, monitor for breaches, and suggest or initiate corrective actions.
  • Precept new ambulatory technologists under registered nurse oversight and perform assigned administrative duties such as scheduling and registration.
  • Prepare rooms and instruments for surgical procedures, provide basic patient instructions, anticipate provider needs, prepare and dress wounds, and prepare specimens for the laboratory.
  • Check and calibrate equipment, set up sterile fields, prepare instrument trays, and sterilize instruments.
  • Prepare specimens in the appropriate preservative medium, label them, verify requisitions, and ensure specimens are logged correctly.
  • Review provider-prepared discharge instructions with patients.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer use is preferred.
