Requirements
  • At least 4 years of experience as a Boilermaker Helper, Boilermaker Ironworker, or comparable position.
  • Ability to work at heights exceeding 300 feet.
  • Ability to take the lead in steel erection, fabrication, grid layout, and rigging.
  • Ability to perform all duties of the craft trade.
  • Ability to read and understand issued-for-construction drawings, craft specifications, cut sheets, procedures, recommendations, notes, details, elevations, piece marks, orientations, symbols, and legends.
  • Ability to prepare hang lists, lay out work from drawings, cut material from layouts and cut sheets, and identify required materials.
  • Ability to recognize when production work must stop and when a request for information must be initiated.
  • Knowledge of safe rigging practices, including chokers, slings, crane flagging, tag-line knots, and lashing knots.
  • Knowledge of connecting methods, bolting procedures, torque and tension values, turn-of-the-nut methods, indicators, and use of a Skidmore.
  • Knowledge of specialty tools including torque wrenches, Skidmore devices, torque guns, magnetic drills, and Hogan drills.
  • Basic knowledge of welding machine setup and MIG, stick, and gas welding.
  • Knowledge of cutting-torch setup, hazards, use, cleaning, tip types, and appropriate tip selection.
  • Knowledge of JLG man baskets and cranes.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance and inspections and safe operating practices.
  • Ability to perform the arithmetic necessary for craft duties, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, lifting, and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess all required tools and reliable transportation.
Responsibilities
  • Construct iron and steel structures according to specifications for an industrial new-construction plant and related miscellaneous structures.
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work, including material locations, quantities, and sizes.
  • Identify all tools required for assigned tasks.
  • Identify safety risks and required precautions to eliminate those risks.
  • Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
  • Hoist equipment and tools into position using bull rigging or cranes.
  • Verify the vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and levels.
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts according to blueprints and supervisor instructions.
  • Bolt aligned structural-steel members into position for permanent riveting or bolting.
  • Pull, push, or pry iron and steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting.
  • Cut, bend, and weld iron and steel pieces using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as instructed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience installing, repairing, and maintaining industrial machinery, especially power-generation machines and equipment.
  • Experience working as a Millwright Helper on a new-construction project.
  • Previous Zachry employment or Zachry ROF employee status.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Formal or technical education.

Zachry Group awarded Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource's Combined Cycle Generation Project. SAN ANTONIO-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Zachry Group (Zachry) has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource Inc.'s Combined Cycle Generation Project, a major infrastructure project located near Wheatfield, Indiana. The facility will support NiSource's delivery of electricity to a third-party customer and includes two nominal 1,300-megawatt gas-fired combined cycle units in a 2 x 2 x 1 configuration. A subsidiary of NiSource Inc. will own and operate the facility. The EPC contract will be executed by a joint venture between Zachry Group and Quanta Services, Inc. (Quanta). Zachry will lead engineering, procurement, project management, construction planning, and commissioning, drawing on its five decades of experience designing and building over 100 gas-fired facilities totaling more than 60,000 megawatts. Quanta will contribute field-level leadership and craft workforce management through its operating companies. This collaborative approach is designed to enhance execution certainty, optimize labor resources, and deliver cost-effective, high-quality infrastructure.
