About the role
Are you passionate about digital journalism and looking for an opportunity to shape the news agenda for millions of readers worldwide? MailOnline has a rare opportunity for a talented, experienced journalist to join our newsroom as a Homepage Editor.
The successful candidate will play a key role at one of the world’s most popular commercial news sites. They will curate the top stories of the day, ensuring our content is timely and engaging. They will be responsible for maintaining quality and quantity of output, under the oversight of our senior editors. They will write engaging headlines and use their instinct and experience to actively shape stories that will interest our audience.
A strong track record of newsgathering, editing and managing a team is essential for this role, together with a deep understanding of digital 24-hour news.
Main Responsibilities
- Curate and present a compelling selection of stories for the MailOnline homepage, maintaining quality at all times
- Attend and contribute to daily conferences
- Identify strong content, write headlines, re-order and re-prioritise stories provided by the section editors
- Understand and use analytics to help curate the site
- Present stories in a visually engaging way by ensuring copy has relevant pictures and video content

Person Specification
- Extensive experience in digital journalism, ideally in a similar role
- Strong editorial judgment and news sense
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- A keen understanding of MailOnline's audience and content style
MailOnline operates on a rota basis, seven days a week, which requires a flexible approach to shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
