Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, Humanities or a related field.
  • Five years of related experience organizing events and managing media and social media for an organization.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and report on large amounts of work and to set and meet related deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, with a systematic and extremely prepared work style.
  • Ability to work independently, work regular hours, and be on time routinely.
  • Evidence of excellence in organizing conferences and academic events.
  • Experience working in digital and traditional media.
  • Strong writing skills, organizational skills, and professional demeanor.
  • Staff and organizational management experience.
  • Experience creating professional reports.
  • Project management experience, including planning, creating, and monitoring budgets.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the organization of WCAAAS’ annual lecture series and legacy programs in collaboration with Director, Steering Committee, and Department of African and African Diaspora Studies Chair.
  • Help create events initiated by faculty or staff.
  • Manage the development of Center projects, such as the graduate Caribbean and Gulf Studies portfolio, and work with other campus units to coordinate information and plan related events.
  • Participate in and help organize events involving a combination of Black Studies units where all staff provide support.
  • Oversee operational budgets with Director.
  • Create, monitor operating budget with Financial Analyst for Black Studies.
  • Create, implement operational policies to help maintain WCAAAS structure.
  • Direct, supervise WCAAAS student staff.
  • Oversee the development of the WCAAAS media strategy, including management of social media channels.
  • Oversee website content and maintenance with Director, Communications Coordinator, and Assistant Director of Donor and External Relations.
  • Oversee programming documentation and image archives.
  • Join leadership on donor, prospect visits.
  • With Director, identify, meet with potential donors.
  • Participate in WCAAAS events, attend public events to promote programs and represent WCAAAS.
  • Assist in planning, executing cultivation events.
  • Assist in planning, maintaining corporate and foundation support.
  • With development and Director, create and maintain stewardship relations and correspondences.
  • Assist in grant writing initiatives, write grants.
  • Participate in Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, Humanities, or a related field or a terminal degree in the appropriate related discipline.
  • More than five years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with the administrative processes within universities.
  • Experience with university or organizational administration.
  • Experience advising students.
  • Successful grant-writing experience.
